Filtering Activity Loops

Hey guys, I’ve never used buddy press before and before I dive in further I’d like to know if there is an option for users who sign up to create a post that could include text video images etc. When they are done their post they would then be able to choose 2-3 categories that their post fits in and then submit. When it gets submitted it would go to the activity loop on the home page under latest posts. Any other user who visits the site would be able to filter out all the posts created with a filter (similar to Kjiji or amazon) to find the exact posts they would like to see. Is this even possible or is this outside the scope of buddypress. Thanks in advance guys!

What you want is the ability for members to create posts in the front end.
And have filterable activity items created for those posts.

Both items are very doable – via other plugins or custom code.

To see the current offerings, Google: buddypress front end post

Thanks for the super quick response! I’ve looked into that. I personally thought buddy press allowed user to post from the front end already? Without this plugin they would have to login a backend using wordpress admin type settings?

Is buddy press best used with a theme that has buddy press integrated or could I use a theme like Divi and it would work perfectly fine? Also, would you know of a plugin that will filter out all the users posts sort of like Kijiji or amazons filter on the left? I am not even sure what that is called to search for it on google. Thanks again!

BP does not provide the ability to create WP posts on the front end.
You could give each member the Editor role and then they could create posts via wp-admin.
You will need to write some code to filter out various kinds of post-related activity entries.

Hmm, Not really good with code. I know CSS, but nothing beyond that.

Would there be any plugins that can sort users posts by category? I’m okay with users being able to post on front end and back end I don’t know if it makes a difference. As long as they get sorted properly and placed in the activity feed.

In order to filter activity entries re posts, you’ll need to use an existing plugin that allows front-end posting and create activity items. I’ll already provided the google terms to search on.

Okay thanks. I’ll have to do some more research.Do you recommend using a theme that is meant for buddy press or would any theme work perfect with buddypress?
