How Do I Create a Summary Instead of Entire Passage Being Shown?

I want people to briefly look at the title to see if it is relevant to them. So I dont want the entire post to be shown.

I’ve set it up so that they are directed to a category page, but that page has all the posts full-blown. I don’t want this. I just want either title or little summary. How do I do that?

replace `the_content()` with `the_excerpt()` in index.php and archive.php
