How do I resize comment and activity avatar size!?

I have easily found ways to increase the “default” and “thumbnail” avatar size through the bp-custom.php but when commenting on another user’s activity I am seeing 20px X 20px avatar thumbnails. I am desperate to find where in the coding I can change this without pixelation. I am getting the same result in the majority of activity in the site “activity stream”.
