How do I set up my social networking site better

I am a novice in this. I do not have any programming knowledge. I am used to using WYSIWYG software to design my sites.
I came across Buddypress and I see it as a tool I can use. However, I realise thatI am having a few problem setting up my social Networking site.
1. Many plugins that I install return some errors, I have to uninstall
2. There is no restriction to what a visitor can view when they visit my site. They can easily get to every part of the site without restrictions. I tried to install Secure invite plugin based on its feature and shown on the plugin page but it returned error. I have uninstall it.
3. I desire to put a sign up page or button somewhere. I do not know how to go about it.
Please, can someone give some advice on the easiest way to overcome these challenges. I will appreciate you kind responses.
