Ignore and Report function in the activity stream.

    Hi,

I would like to have an option to ignore someone in the activity stream or report unwanted behavior to a mod. The 2nd option might be more complicated but I think both are pretty important on bigger sites:

    An example: http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/2088/ignore.png

ignore: hides future status updates/activity from the user in question. When you want to view his/her stream again it should be done through his/her profile page: “stop ignoring this person”

report: reports the user to an moderator/admin.

BP definitely need the a “report this” feature.

I’m going to apply for a GSoC project related to BP, mainly for coding a strong stable media component, but I’ll add the report-this plugin too.

Still have to send the application document, I hope it will be accepted.

    +1

@francescolaffi – Do you want to extend BPAlbum+ into some sort of BPMedia if you awarded the contract for GSoC?

Would this be overlap with BPLinks? It seems MrMaz is also tending into the direction of a complete Media Plugin.

@21cdb yes my idea is abstracting the media type and add the possibility to add every kind of media as modules.

I’m not following the development of BPLinks, thanks for informing me of the possible overlap. Is BPLinks going to organize media in albums or everything is in the stream?

Great that you are willing to pick this up (if everything goes to plan). About your plans with a Media plugin.. I like it, but to be honest besides BP Album+ we also have BP-Gallery from Brajesh (buddydev.com) which already does photo/video and audio quite well (it will be released to the public in the upcoming months). So while I encourage all development, you might take a look at things that haven’t been done at all.. :)

Perhaps we can just merge the BP Links codebase into ours, and then all of us work on a unified media plugin. I spent some time debugging the BP Links plugin yesterday and it looks like they have well documented code.

@foxly In my opinion bplinks and bp-album have different purpose, bplinks for share content (that can be media) on the activity stream and bp-album for uploading and organizing members’ own media. As long as bplinks and bp-album have different features is probably better to have different plugins.

@francescolaffi – you’re probably right. After going through the BP Links plugin, it looks like there is actually very little overlap with BP Album+.

whats the status on this? would also like to find a way for an ignore user or report this/mark as spam in my activity stream

@dre1080 I’ve submitted my GSoC application including a moderation component in the project, you can read further information and timing in this post http://flweb.it/2010/04/google-summer-of-code-project-media-component-and-moderation-for-buddypress

Just to clarify, would the “report this” functionality sit only on the activity stream, or does it extend into the native content type (blogs, forums, etc)?

This plugin use crowdsourcing to help site admins finding contents to moderate. It adds a “report this” link to every posted content in the site, so members can easily report contents to admins.

    @francescolaffi

yes it does extend to other core components and have API to extend it to custom components if any.
