[Resolved] Installing Buddy Press 404 error

    @jcarbohn

    While installing buddypress, I came across a 404 error message when trying to access parts of buddypress such as the profile section, or the newly installed buddydrive plugin. I tried changing my permalinks, that didn’t do anything. I looked at other troubleshooting articles that went as far as changing the web.config. That didn’t seem to work either.

    I am running my own IIS hosting on Windows Server 2008.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Have you associated buddypress pages in dashboard/settings/buddypress/pages?
    This tends to happen when one does not check the anyone can register box beside membership in dashboard/settings/general before activating buddypress because then the pages are not automatically associated. You will have to manually associate the pages.

    I have associated the buddypress pages and I also have the “anyone can register” box checked.

    And what are your permalinks settings? Are you running with ‘almost prety permalinks’ or are your pages/posts references as something like ?p=.

    Running under IIS does have issues with setting up permalinks which Apache doesn’t, BP does have a strict requirement for permalinks running. I would check out the WP codex for articles on ISS and permalinks unless your happy those are working correctly on your install.

    Sorry for the delay. I actually got this to work. I forgot to update the ticket. Thanks for the help.

    You should really add a quick note on what resolved the issue for you so others that read the thread might benefit.
