Is anyone using the Genesis Buddy Child Theme?

Hi there I was wondering if anyone is using one of the Genesis Buddy Child themes? I’ve gotten off to a really rocky start with it but haven’t given up quite yet. Unfortunately due to a snafu on my part I don’t currently have access to their support forums and apparently the people who run it don’t have access to e-mail because of some sort of DNS problem. All of that to say I don’t seem to be able to get any support right now, so I thought I’d ask here.

Unfortunately the instructions that came with my downloads are pretty bare-bones and I don’t seem to be able to make much sense out of them but I’m not the greatest at this sort of thing.

So I’m looking for clarification on the following if anyone can help.

    1) Do I have to upload the actual Genesis framework before I even start working with the Genesis Buddy Child theme?

    2) Do I also need to upload the original studio press Child theme I plan on using? Again I mean as in before I do anything with the BuddyPress child theme version?

    3) In terms of integrating Buddy Genesis with the studio press original Genesis at a loss as to whether I am making changes to the BuddyPress Genesis theme or am I doing the changes in the original Genesis theme framework?

Spent well over $100 trying to get access to this stuff today and all I’ve managed to do is get completely confused and frustrated so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    1) Yes, you need to upload both the Genesis framework and the Genesis Buddy Child theme in order for Genesis Buddy to work.

    2) Read this: http://premiumbpthemes.com/about/child-theme-integration/

    3) If you need to make changes to Genesis Buddy, you’ll probably need to make them to the Genesis Buddy child theme. Contact andrea_r for more details.

    like r-a-y said…

    1) Upload Genesis and the GenesisBuddy child theme.

    2) Activate the Genesis theme first

    3) Then activate GenesisBuddy

    4) All theme changes will be done to the child theme.

what do you mean activate? I thought it was only possible to have one activated theme at a time?

    @r-a-y

Activate the “Genesis Buddy” theme only. Make sure you have the Genesis framework uploaded before you activate Genesis Buddy.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh got you! so you mean the Studiopress one! How the heck can the activated ( studiopress orig) read the changes if they are made to the genbud theme?

Nope that didn’t do it! Anyhow thanks guys but I think im way in over my head so I guess i will jut wait until I can get a hold of the developers. Bummer tho cuz I thought it would be much easier.

Make sure both “Genesis Buddy” and the Genesis framework is uploaded to /wp-content/themes/.

You should activate “Genesis Buddy” (the one made by andrea_r and wpmuguru) and not the Genesis framework!

This should be your expected result:

Thanks ray but I keep getting a style sheet error. The instructions are too bear bones for me. Its not at all clear to me whats needs to be done. I mean I’m dealing with four thems. Gen, gen child, buddygen and then the buddygen child. Hoepfully the developers wiil respond on the froums and it wont be a one reply a day sitution.

not been this confused in a long time lol.

    thanks again.

I thought should probably just do a quick update here on this thread. After-the-fact to realize the thread might make it look like I was suggesting that Ron and Andrea we’re a little lacking in the customer service and I couldn’t be further from the truth. I think it was just a little bit of bad timing and eagerness on my part to get things up and running ASAP.

Anyhow my problem has been resolved and it turns out that a big part of it was user error on my part. That’s way too often the case! LOL

Ron IMO went way above and beyond terms of the service and support he offered me over the weekend. Very helpful, very patient and very polite. If it was roles reverse I probably would’ve been a little snappier than Ron was with me !

Anyhow very good highly recommend their services to anyone who’s looking for premium theme. These guys are my second premium theme company and without naming names IMO these guys are considerably better to deal with than the first premium theme people I dealt with a few months ago. And I would add much more affordable.

    Thanks again guys.

Yup, Andrea and Ron are a dependable one-two duo!

I bet I know who that *other* premium company is ;)

If you are involved with the “other’ people sorry no offense intended. I didn’t name them becuse I’m sure they are a good fit for others and so I didn’t want to shit talk them. But They were really was not a good fit for me and the comaprison IMO between them the buddy gen people in terms of customer service is nite in day.

    Anyhow nuff said!
