Is it possible to sharing BuddyPress and WordPress Users?

I require to setup a WordPress Site and a separate BuddyPress Site. The users however will be the same for both Sites. I notice that both WordPress and BuddyPress use database tables named wp_users and wp_usermeta. For various hosting, administration etc. reasons I’d rather not use WordPress Network/Multisite.
Is it possible to setup BuddyPress to use the same wp_users and wp_usermeta tables of a ‘single-site’ WordPress install so that users don’t have to be duplicated in both the WordPress and BuddyPress databases (and to avoid people having to register for two Sites)?
    Thank you :)

BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin and not a separate application. BP shares the DB of your WordPress site. And yes, BuddyPress can be installed in single WordPress.

    Hey Gary ( @ecksteing ),

You might have already observed BuddyPress is nothing but a plugin for WordPress.
Well, as of now there is no such ready made arrangement for the same but Andy has worked on an open source plugin that gives BuddyPress Features into WordPress theme.

I have not tested this but I think this may be helpful to you.

    Keep in touch! :-)

    Thanks Kapil and Mercime,
I think I need to ‘play’ with BuddyPress a bit more to get to know it better ;)
