Issue with turning off groups and forum URLs in Activity stream

  • Peter Hardy-vanDoorn

Currently, my member’s only site has groups with their own forums, but my users find the distinction between Groups and Forums to be confusing, so I’m looking to simplify by removing groups and just having individual forums.

When I try to do this on (on a local clone of the site) all seems to go well, except that all of the URLs to the forum posts in the site-wide activity still point to the original location of the post.

Is there a way to force the URLs to automatically update to their new forum locations?

    Automatically? No.

You could try using the bbPress tools.

If that doesn’t work, you’ll need to replace those urls.
You can write a script or use a search & replace tool like this one.
It’s a powerful tool. Definitely try it on your clone until you understand how to use it.

    Hi shanebp

Thanks for the that, but I have tried the repair tools, and they don’t do anything to help me.

Yes, I know of that script, but was rather hoping that there was something that I’d overlooked without having to get my hands dirty directly editing the database!

Seems to me that this is something that the repair tools should handle. I can’t be the first person to have tried to move the location of a forum.

It also seems odd that this is actually a problem, as I seem to recall a recent update to BP boasting that the activity stream was now generated automatically on each load, rather than being a pre-defined set of data. Surely the URL of a forum post should be something that is being regenerated each time?

    Thanks again
