Login was never a widget, it was hardcoded to the sidebar in bp-default and still is so copy it from the sidebar.php in /bp-themes/bp-default/ to your themes sidebar.
No answer to your registration issue my local installs don’t appear to have any issues, you may need to provide a little more detail.
It took me hours to figure out which files I needed to change in order just to log into the admin dashboard!
why? You can always login via wp-login.php and navigate to dashboard with /wp-admin/
Why was everything working before upgrade? not easy to answer that 1.7 has significant changes how was/is your theme working with BP using template pack or is it a true BP enabled custom theme.

Thanks I will give that a go. It just confused me when it disapeared after the update.

I’m not sure what more detail I can give. Just the /register now results in a redirect loop even after switching permalink settings.

That was my first point of call, but every one of them resulted in a 404. It wasn’t until I tried the login in part at the comment section did it then allow me to log in at the defult wordpress login screen.
Also I think I have fixed the admin bar. Just turned it on and off again.
If you want to take a look, doubt it would help but here is the site in question: http://www.caiminds.com
I back up every time I’m about to install a new plugin or update one or every week so there is no problems there. I will try this
Looks like I owe an apology. It seems a reinstall has fixed some issues I had, including slow page speed loads and I forgot the widget was part of bbpress and not buddypress and the install must have deleted it.
The only issue that remains is the register page still results in a redirect loop.
@jamiethecomic
If you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed you may want to deactivate them all to see if the problem persists. If the redirect loop stops and works fine after that then re-activate each plugin one at a time and test to see if you can narrow down which plugin may be causing the issue. If you find that it is a plugin, then report back which plugin was causing the redirect loop.

@jamiethecomic where does the register page redirect to? If you are logged in and you go to the register page, you will be redirected to home page. You have to be logged out first to reach the register page.
it results in a re directional loop. And yes I know it will redirect to the home page when I’m logged in.
I’ve got it! It was Better WP Security causing the problems. Just turned it off and it worked.
Now need to figure out which settings is causing it.
I feel really bad for the title of this topic. Sorry! But that’s what you get when you cross a novice with an idiot. 😛
Ok I got it! It was the “Enable Hide Backend” that was causing everything to go wrong. I don’t even need it on thanks to the “User Role Editor” so I guess everything is fine. Now I just need to work out why the thumbnails on the main page sometimes appears and other times it doesn’t but that isn’t down to BuddyPress, that much I know!
Again sorry for my anger but after losing all my site’s data once before because of a stupid mistake, I was a little on edge.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me!
I can’t wait to get http://www.caiminds.com fully operational again to make it a great source of entertainment and I’m going to do it thanks to BuddyPress. (Was that 2 shameless plugs in one paragraph? I think it was!)
