Make BuddyPress function more like Facebook

I am just starting out with BP and am wondering if it is possible to set it up more like facebook where users can invite friends to join and then are the only ones able to see their status updates (as opposed to an open system where everything everyone says is viewable to all members).

You might be interested in the privacy plugin, to be available in November 8.
