I want to replace the buddypress search box from top header (which is prime realestate!) to the bottom left page (using bp columns theme). Is there a buddypress 1.5 compatible plugin that manages banneradds? Would be good to be able to handle banneradds in forums/groups.

Nice work with buddypress 1.5. Took ages to fix theme when making upgrade to 1.5 but well worth the learning curve.

If you have a bp-default child theme, copy over header.php from bp-default theme https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.4/bp-themes/bp-default/header.php
Then delete lines 25-44 from header.php per link I gave and move those lines over where you want it.

You could create widget areas then just add the sidebar areas where you want them to show up in theme, see how to http://justintadlock.com/archives/2010/11/08/sidebars-in-wordpress
