MULTIPLE BuddyPress sites using a “single” buddypress installation?

I am a newbie with no programming experience, so please bear with my ignorance.

    Here is the situation:

    1. We are planning to use buddypress for multiple social network sites.

    2. Each site will have it’s own unique/different/separate domain name, for example site1.com, site2.com, site3.com and so on.
Please note we are not talking sub-domains but different domains.

    3. Different sites will use different themes, different pluggins, and will have different content/members etc.

    4. We are thinking of doing it using single installation of BuddyPress to save time in ongoing management of all these separate sites.

Please help with the folloing questions:

    1. Is it even possible to use single install of BuddyPress for multiple different sites (all with their own different domains)?

    2. How many “maximum” sites can one installation of BuddyPress handle without causing any problems?

    3. What are the steps to enable multiple sites using single buddypress install?

    4. Will it allow us to keep all the sites independent of each other (full content, themes, pluggins and databases of each site)?

For example, if down the road we sell one or more of the sites, will we be able to transfer that complete site to it’s new owner “easily”?
Will it cause any issues in member records and databases etc?

    5. Now the million dollar question: Is it all possible or Am I just insane?

Please provide some guidance how should we proceed and what is the best way to efficiently manage multiple BuddyPress sites?

    Thank you VERY MUCH.

    Regards.

No, you cannot have multiple instances of BuddyPress in one installation. In other words, BuddyPress works in one site of your WPMS install, there’s no BuddyPress multisite script at this time..

    1. No, per above. You will need to install one WP site for each BP social network at this time.
    2. BuddyPress can track as many blogs as you want. It all depends on your server … and tech skills of course.
    3. See #1.
    4. See #1
    5. See #1. Wait for BuddyPress MS plugin or create one.

    Thank you very much.

Anyone knows if there is a plan for BuddyPress Multi-site plugin?

    Thanks.

Not planned for core at this time, but we try hard to provide support for anyone wanting to write a plugin to do this.

@DJPaul Thanks for your response. I am not a programmer so :)

Folks at WPMU Dev suggested trying this pluggin by JohnJamesJacoby to see if it works:

    WP Multi Network

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-multi-network/

Adds a Network Management UI for super admins in a WordPress Multisite environment.
Turn your multi-site installation of WordPress into many multi-site networks, all surrounding one central user base.

WP Multi Network allows cape wearing super admins to create new network collections of sites, allowing for infinitely extensible site, network, and domain arrangements.

@johnjamesjacoby Please advise if I can use this pluggin for my purpose as I explained in the original post above.

    Thanks you very much.
