[Resolved] My BuddyPress Multi-site receives lots of spam

    Hi, Lately I have been getting lots of spam from a spam bot attacking my site. The problem is it has several different IPs and I can just block it from the server. I need a reCaptcha plugin for the login form that works and is being updated for the newer versions of BuddyPress. So far, all of the reCaptcha plugins I have used haven’t been updated and don’t show up. The old way I was stopping spam was blocking all email domains that aren’t from the most popular ones (Ex: Gmail, Yahoo, etc) but now this bot is using Gmail and I will not block that email from my site. Someone please help before I need to clean up the database twice this month.

    i’ve used SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam on a single install without issue, never tested with multisite though.

    Ok, I will try this. Also, how are users registering and not setting up their profile. They are shown in the backend off my site but not the front end. Is there a way to stop this too?

    @ubernaut,

    You can also use the following plugins for higher-level ip blocking and behavior blocking:
    – Bad Behavior
    – WordFence
    – Better WP Security

    You can use BuddyPress Humanity to stop bots:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-humanity/

    or the honey pot method: https://github.com/pixeljar/BuddyPress-Honeypot

    If necessary, you can manually approve users:

    @themightymo,
    Before I install any of these are they verified for a BuddyPress Multi site install? I’m liking the look of those plugins.

    @dcavins,
    That first plugin hasn’t been updated in a very long time. Not sure if I should trust it. Also, its kind of annoying to manually approve users. I need something more automated.

    If WordPress had reCaptcha integrated that would be sweet.

    @zachary-dubois – All three of the plugins I mention are Multi-site and BuddyPress-compatible. I also recommend SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam.
