Please HELP! Cannot access my site or wp-admin after updating Buddy Press

Hi,

I have the latest version of WordPress and BuddyPress. I also have Commons in a Box.
The website link is http://www.jaikalki.com

I installed the suggested updates for BuddyPress and wordpress. Then went on to install the updates for ‘Commons in a Box’
After installing the suggested updates for ‘Commons in a Box’, It gave me the following error and now the whole website including wp-admin dashboard in down.:(

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_login_redirect() (previously declared in /home/content/j/a/i/jaikalki/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-login-redirect/bp-login-redirect.php:10) in /home/content/j/a/i/jaikalki/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-dependency.php on line 235

I’m freaking out.I had made customizations to the website. I have active members and data on it. Is it all lost?? Please Help!

@shreyachaudhary deactivate by renaming the bp-login-redirect plugin folder in server via s/FTP or cPanel.

Not to worry,

You will be able to access your site through FTP, then rename buddypress to buddypres, and rename Commons in a Box aswell then you can Investigate further.

The site is back up!

I’m relatively new to WP/BP. And this experience is making me think about how can I possibly avoid this in future.

1) Is there a way I can create a backup/mirror image of my site before installing updates? And rollback to that state if anything goes bonkers during installation of updates?

2) I had relabeled some labels including ‘What’s new, @username?’ to ‘Submit a dream,@username’ in the activity-feed page. After deactivating the buddypress-login-redirect folder, these customizations are gone. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be appreciated!

There’s also a plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/

Can’t see how deactivating BP Login Redirect plugin could affect those customizations. Did you follow instructions on how to customize labels at https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/customizing/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/ ?
