Plugin request: Associate images with xprofile field options
-
For closed response fields (radio buttons, checkboxes, dropdowns/selects and like), it would be cool to be able to associate images/icons with the options.
Then in the front-end, in user profile and directory instead of “St.Louis” we could show the Gateway Arch icon, or for London we could show London Eye icon, etc.
Such visual representation can massively increase the usability and aesthetics.

Anyone?
What response are you looking for then?
An agreement?
Or someone to code you a plugin given you’ve title this thread ‘Plugin Request:’This is a site build issue, a themeing problem, something the developer would deal with, not really sure why this would be a plugin or anything to do with core app really.
@hnla As you have astutely noted, this is a plugin request, and hence I am hoping someone might release a plugin.
Generally, I don’t think developers ever have a lack of ideas 😉
@djpaul Don’t imagine they do. I do imagine that sometimes the demand can come from users as different from the usual “build it, and they will come” model.
Brings me back in mind of vague discussions years back about crowd funding developers to build plugins rather than making requests in the hope that someone will jump to and code another free plugin.
Getting a number of people together to back the initial development of a plugin would at least provide a little incentive for developers to sit down and code.
@hnla It is a good idea, but only works if it is institutional and tech-enabled. e.g. An area on this website dedicated to that pursuit that enables developers to bid on projects and “crowds” to “promise” money (via some sort of escrow or another, simpler system)…it is important to know both – what the developers need for the project, and what the crowds are willing to pay…
I know something similar: http://designwithpc.com/Plugins/ddSlick. Though it’s for a dropdown menu. I would love to have the option to add images on radio, dropdown, checkboxes, etc too via a plugin since I don’t have the knowledge on implementing these things in my theme.
More here:
http://www.marghoobsuleman.com/jquery-image-dropdown@xr4v3nx Yeah the dropdown js while cool doesn’t quite cut it.
Shall we start a pool? I would be happy to pay a small fee to help the developer get started on this.
I am also in need for this. Anything in the works yet?
