Privacy and Member Roles

    Hello

    I’m really satisfied about the progress of buddypress since i tried it the first time. It seems that BP steps forward to a real social networking software.

    What i’d like to have is that i can have some kind of roles e.g. If i have Group A and Group B, members of Group A will only see activities of Group A and sitewide personal activities of their friends, but not activities of Group B in the activity stream.

    Is this possible?

    I also like to have the same functions for blog-entries. Can i do this with Group-Blog-Plugin? E.g. Members of Group A post into Blog A and can read this, but not blogpostings in groupblog of Group B?

    Maybe Jeff (the author of the desperately expected BP-Privacy plugin) or Andy (the father of BP 1.3) can s<y something about the possibilities and plans for the future …

    I reread your post and deleted what I had previously written. If I understand your request, wouldn’t hidden groups be the solution? You can already do that in BuddyPress.

    If Group A and Group B are both hidden groups, then only members within a given group would have access to the activity stream of that group. So, Group A members wouild not be able to see Group B activities and vice versa. The ony exception to that would be if a user was a member of both groups.

    I don’t think that there’s a solution for this yet.

    I’d like to restrict view of mainblog based on group. E.g. Members of Group A will just see blogpostings in the mainblog tagged with “group a”. Members of Group B will just see entries tagged with “group b”.

    The other stuff will be available soon, when BP 1.3 brings some basic privacy (profile viewable for friends or noone) and you’ll release your privacy plugin. ;)
