Really basic question

I set up WordPress. It is hosted by WordPress.com; I don’t have my own site. I want to set up a BuddyPress. The three-step directions say “Download and setup WordPress”, “Head to your “Plugins ? Add New” menu and automatically install BuddyPress.” Where do I find Plugins!!??

Am I not able to find it because my WordPress is on .com instead of .org? I am a complete beginner. Please help!

If you’ve already set up WordPress, go to the dashboard. On the left side is a menu bar. There should be an item called Plugins.

Correct. You cannot add plugins if your site is hosted by WordPress.com.
You can only do so in your own WordPress installation.
