Registration and Birthday Date Selector

I am testing two custom registration forms (WPUF Pro and Gravity Forms Registration Add On) and am unable to make the birthday field work with either one of them. The format of the month/day/year is different between the custom forms and the buddypress registration date selector. The date selector uses Jan, Feb, March etc while the forms use numbers 1-12 for dates. The forms also have different ranges of years than the BP date selector.
Can someone tell me if it is possible to get a member birtdate to correctly populate the Buddypress date format and if so how to do it.
