Registration Not Working

    @jlent14

    Hello,

I am using the latest WordPress with the X theme. The only BuddyPress compatible with this theme is 2.0.1, so I am using that. I am redesigning a site and there seems to be an issue with the registration and activation page.

When I fill out the fields and then press “Sign up” it does redirects to the same Registration page and leaves the password fields blank. I do not have many plugins at this time so that is not the issue. I have set BP up and same with the Pages. Any Idea? URL: http://www.passingrass.com/ultimate/register/

    Thanks

sorry to answer this, but here are 25 pages of topics from people having “the same problem”.

If you don’t use X theme, if you don’t use woocommerce and if you don’t use BP 2.0.1, you have NOT the same problem as @jlent14 ! 😉

It seems to be, looks like, but most probably isn’t. And generally, jumping in others topic or old topics is not a good idea on this support forum.

    To all readers

When encountering a registration problem, first thing to do is to test your install without any plugins and one of WP’s Twenty default theme. Ensure that your site send correctly emails. Before activating any plugin, your base WP install must work.

Once WP is OK – you can install BuddyPress and check your permalinks. Pretty permalinks must be activated to get the plugin working correctly.

This point is important, especially if you have redirection issues after BP is activated.

Second point to check is your theme installation.

Proceeding like this will help you to isolate easely the culprit. If:
    – WP install: OK
    – BP install: OK
    – theme activation: problem

So you know here the problem comes from.

While testing your install, you can activate wp_debug (set to TRUE) in the wp-config file. This can give you a lot of information about conflict and/or errors.

Just keep in mind that these information have 2 levels of importance: notice and warning.
While notice are generally harmless, warnings should be taken seriously in account and solved.

If WP is the problem, see first the wordPress support
If it’s BuddyPress, see the BP support
If it’s the theme, see the theme support
If it’s any other plugin, see first the plugin support.

Thank you for you attention. 😉

Updates: I used developer tool to dig more into it and observed 500 internal error in response. It indicates must be something going wrong with database connectivity. Then I observed WordPress php error logs and it was telling me that whenever user clicks on register button, mysql client is running out of memory. I will be changing RAM by tomorrow and will check if that fixes it.

Aw man what a bunch of commotion! Haha! Well, I’ve had this problem happen about 2 years ago and I failed to write down the solution. I will contact the X developers and see what they say. Will post back.

RAM change didn’t helped much but I fixed the issue. Issue was with wp_sitemeta table, it was containing approx 6000 copies of same banned_name entries for site_id “1” and thus mysql was returning huge amount of data in response causing php to fail in handling it. Have updated site_id as “0” for other entries and kept original entry as it is.

Check with your wp_sitemeta table for site_id and banned_names.

    Thanks

Hi. I’m having the same problem. Unfortunately I’m not too experienced at this stuff so most of the fixes suggested are over my head. Any simpler explanations??? I’m using buddypress with wplms theme. I’ve set the registration page to register with wplms. Thanks so much!

Updates : Issue reappeared but atleast I am with workaround now. Will be placing wp_sitemeta update query for “illegal_names” in cron and then need to figure at what instance its making multiple entries for “illegal_names” with same site_id [site_id “1” in my case. I am changing site_id to “0” for duplicate entries]. Please make sure to exclude original / required sites meta_id during this operation.

Hope this will help someone to fix the issue temporarily or till I come back with proper fix.

    Thanks

Hey sorry for the late reply (been moving). I’m my case I’ve managed to redirect the URL to the dating sign up page. I am using dating plugin so new members will just fill out that form. I still do not know why that was happening.
