Reporting & Fixing Bugs

Firstly I just want say thank you to everyone out there for reporting bugs. I’ve been amazed at the level of input and feedback within the community. It’s great to see this level of enthusiasm for a project so new.

Just a reminder – if find a bug, please search on http://trac.buddypress.org to see if it has previously been reported. If you think you’ve found something unseen, start a new bug ticket – http://trac.buddypress.org/newticket and explain the steps to recreate the problem. Please be as descriptive as possible.

Help with bug fixing is always appreciated. If you decide to tackle a bug, please log into trac with your support forum credentials and assign the bug to you. Once you have fixed the bug, please submit a patch/diff file so that the changes can be approved and merged with the trunk. If you search on google for ‘creating patch files’ you will find useful guides.

If you have trouble creating patch files, code snippets can also be helpful in the bug comments area.

Please post any questions in this thead.

Posted this in a previous thread, I can’t raise tickets…

I recently found out in the latest build created 4th Feb that the group avatars upload and generate fine with the correct path but the actual names saved to the database are wrong.

The database naming of the group avatar is saved into the database as http://www.myserver.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/1/james-bond-3-groupavatar-thumb.jpg and

    http://www.myservercom/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/1/james-bond-3-groupavatar-full.jpg

the files are named as follows during the upload in tha dmin of changing the group avatar http://www.myserver.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/1/james-bond-avatar1.jpg (this is the thumbnail)

    and

    http://www.myserver.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/1/james-bond-avatar2.jpg

hope it helps someone, it looks to me that there is a mistake in the naming of the files on the upload as opposed to what is saved into the database at the time of creation… Once I changed my database file name the group avatar loaded fine…

I will go out on a limb to say that what looks like a bug at first is often times just normal user error.

I consider myself a seasoned PHP/SQL/Linux/WordPress/bbPress veteran, and to be honest it took me installing and reinstalling MU/BuddyPress 4 times before I was able to follow the instructions correctly. Each time I would have sworn on my undead mothers grave that I did everything right, but alas…

So a tip to you all, if it isn’t working, it just might be because of something you don’t know you didn’t do… ;)

I wandered over to your portfolio. I may be the only person on the planet that actually reads footer tag lines. What exactly does this mean:

..[snip] ” who currently resides in Miami, FL but represents Milwaukee, WI.”

    Does Milwaukee know this? :)

    Hmm… I suppose not… :)

But then again, how many people can you say made it out of the Midwest alive?

Andy, we’ve had a discussion on IRC long time ago about this ticket https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/257

And it’s stuck with this WordPress bug https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/8662

Could you push the core devs up there to take a look and commit the patch? It’s a tiny bug, and it doesn’t affect standard WP installations, but it does to BP, and it’s bugging us who live ahead GMT and use our local time as the blog’s time.

Hi, I installed buddypress yesterday, everything works well, except I get a script-error in the admin section under ‘Profile fields’:

    Line: 147

    Char: 45

Error: Object dosen’t support this property or method

    Any fix for this?
