[Resolved] Help to make my WPTheme BuddyPress compatible – aniMass theme

  • Hi

I have just installed BuddyPress on my blog at http://www.richard-dickinson.com
Unfortunately though my WP theme anIMass does not work properly when I use ‘My Account’ menu (any item) -no content displays & the sidebar is out of place.
I have looked at the instructions to include bpress code in page.php & index.php & I have tried this with no success so far.

anIMass is a theme from WordPress directory & I am the author of it & I am a bit embarrassed I cannot fix the code in page/index.php templates for my theme to work properly with BuddyPress!

I will keep trying to edit these templates but I am a bit desperate seeing all my attempts have failed so far. As such I am most grateful for help and look forward to replies

    Thanks

Looks like a souped up template file. What theme are you using? You can post code of your WP theme’s page.php at pastebin.com. Click submit and post generated URL here.

    Hi mercime
These are not souped up files!(just scrambled in the post in the comment box). I have posted both files @ pastebin
    http://pastebin.com/HXxu48Rz

I am most grateful if anyone can integrate my theme index.php with bbprees/activity index.php

I look forward to helpful replies-many thanks

Still trying to sort page layout in my WPtheme conversion to BuddyPress.
I have also noticed that presently my theme shows stanadrd nav menu and not the custom menu I have enabled. Anyone any ideas on this? I will keep checking these issues but some reply with help would be greatly appreciated please?

I sorted the standard & custom menu issue! Basically I have uploaded a newly named theme that is a composite of my anIMass theme with BuddyPress template files which I am editing to fix page layout issues. However I had forgotten to reapply custom nav menu settings to this new composite theme!
Phew! It gets a bit complicated editing files on localhost & server & I forgot to check fully!
However I still do not have my page layout fixed fully yet so help to do that would still be very much appreciated. I remain hopeful for more helpful replies….

@RPD If you mean this theme, https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/animass, then we’ll use the WP page.php file as guide in the transformation.

Open up the activity/index.php file transferred to your anIMass folder in server. At the top, replace:
    `

    `

    with
    `

    `

At the bottom of the same file, replace:
    `

    `

    with
    `

    `

Save and then do the same for the remaining files https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#revise-templates

    Merci beaucoup Mercine

    C’est bon!
    All good now…
I was nearly there with my edits but not quite & I was confused as I kept checking via adminbar during the edits but it all only woked after all the edits were complete. Magnifique!

Thanks very much for your very helpful reply-now I need to see what features I want to enable & configure & explore BuddyPress-looking forward to it…

    Best wishes
    Richard

De rien. De nada. Prego. Welcome to BuddyPress :-)

    Sincere apologies …mercime …pardonez moi….another faux-pas – mais a votre sante! Sure looking forward to BuddyPress :-)

Hi, I have the same issue. I have done all the steps leading up to this point except the second part of these instructions..

“2. Alternatively, you may find it easier to make copies of your theme’s header.php, sidebar.php and footer.php and rename them to header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php, and footer-buddypress.php.

Then you can alter the structure of these new template files (header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php, and footer-buddypress.php) to resemble your theme’s page.php (or index.php).”

I tried to follow the instructions listed above but these instructions appear to be slightly different from what’s in my .php files. Please help. I don’t know what it means to “alter the structure of these new template files ( ) to resemble your theme’s page .php.” or how to do it.

The site is http://mybridalstuff.com, Please please help.
