Anybody? Users still can’t login – I’ve looked through all of the backend options and can’t find anything that might be preventing registered users to login. Any ideas?
When a user registers, an email is sent out with an activation link. The user must visit this link to activate their account before they can log in. I’m in a hurry, so I can’t do it right now, but there are a few plugins, and even some code snippets on this forum that will allow you to bypass activation. It’s not recommended on a live site to help block spam users.
Thanks for your response Brandon. I used other email addresses that I operate and I never received any email from my site or from WordPress/buddypress. Is there something I need to activate or set up to make those emails go out?
Nope. They have a history of going to spam boxes, so you might check there.
No such luck. Just tried again with another email account – it is just not sending out the emails.
Some web hosts have a problem with email sent from wordpress. I have used https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/ to fix it on a non budddypress site, but it should work with bp installed as well – though haven’t tried it that way. It can also send test emails to help diagnose the problem….
There are other techniques/plugins…
Ok, the wp mail smtp plugin didn’t seem to work, but I installed the Mail From plugin and that did the trick, so thank you for pointing me in that direction! Problem solved, thanks guys.
