Running 2 instances of WP (domain and sub-domain) and need to convert to a multisite network

I am currently running WP in two instances on a domain and a sub-domain but I need to create a multisite network in order to get BP working properly with my design. Since I already have WP installed on my sub-domain do I need to uninstall it on the sub-domain first in order to proceed? If so does that mean that I just need to delete the folder that was created with the name of the sub-domain in the public_html folder?
