Several issues after upgrading to 1.6

  • Hello and thank you for this update.

BP 1.6 is not working with my website. After updating from the last 1.5 release, I noticed the following issues and I can’t fix them :

    – The profile avatar is correctly displayed in the WP bar when browsing in wp-admin section. But not in the mainsite as a visitor.
There is an issue with the avatar, in any page displaying an avatar (including avatar in the WP bar), for groups or any profiles. It is replaced by html code.

    Example : http://www.moncoachdenutrition.com/members/coachnutrition/

When checking the code, there is an obvious code error with a double img tag (<img src="<img src) :

    <li id="wp-admin-bar-user-info" class=""><a class="ab-item" href="http://www.moncoachdenutrition.com/members/coachnutrition/profile/edit/"><img src=&quot;<img src="http://www.moncoachdenutrition.com/wp-content/uploads/avatars/1/22e21576e76a0c01d85e4e611aae6c19-bpfull.jpg" alt="Avatar de Mon Coach de Nutrition" class="avatar user-1-avatar" width="64" height="64" />" width="64" height="64" alt="Avatar de %s"><span class='display-name'>Mon Coach de Nutrition</span><span class='username'>coachnutrition</span></a> </li>

    – Second issue : impossible to edit a profile, as it leads to an inifinite url loop.
Example : If I try to edit the profile through

    http://www.moncoachdenutrition.com/members/coachnutrition/profile/edit/

it leads to a blank page where the url is getting bigger and bigger :

    http://www.moncoachdenutrition.com/members/coachnutrition/profile/edit/group/1/:/www.moncoachdenutrition.com/1/:/www.moncoachdenutrition.com/1/...

Everything was working like a charm before this update.
Please avoid advices like “you should have tested it before”. I know but Buddypress is just one of the team that I trust the most.
I just wanted to know if someone has an idea about the solution ?

    Many thanks

    Kris

PS website is in French, I don’t know if it is important.

Hi Kris3d, first up you’ve probably seen it but can you confirm you’ve followed the steps in this thread? https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/transitioning-from-1-5-x-to-1-6/ Just want to know what stage you are at in diagnosing. Can you also confirm you’ve checked and are using BuddyPress 1.6 versions of any theme or plugins you are using?

That all being said have you tried resaving your settings under settings > BuddyPress and resaving your permlinks under settings > permlinks? Are you using any caching plugins? If so have you tried clearing them? I know some hosting has cache enabled that may be causing issues for you here, it may of course not be the issue though.

Assuming all that is there anything in your error logs on your server that may shed some light? Rather than pasting the entire thing you can use something like https://gist.github.com/ and link in that way please?

What version of WordPress are you using? multisite or regular?

    Hello,

    Sorry for the late reply.
I could not wait so much, as my website was in a total mess, so I totally uninstalled BP.
    WP is regular version.

    Thank you

1.5 BP install with completely unmodified default theme, works perfectly. After upgrading the install to 1.6 (there were no errors during the upgrade process) …attempting to click on a group name or topic link results in an infinite redirect with the new 1.6 Default theme. All plugins disabled, of course.

This is with completely unmodified BP files from the distro .ZIP.

    Best places to start checking?
