sign up and login area – template tag or widget?

Currently it seems as if I can only use the sign up widget one time so is there any short code / template tag I can use so I can put the sign-up and login challenge in the same area on the side bar or other area of the site?
I’d like members to be able to see both the sign up and sign in functions in the same area of the site.. also since I have wp-admin password protected with htaccess if the users puts in the wrong user name or password they get redirected to wp-admin which of course ask for a username and password just to get to that folder.. how do I work around this?
