[site wide activity] problem with time

    Hi all,

Im using buddypress in my site, the problem i face is with the time in the “Site Wide Activity” widget. It shows “11 hours and 30 mins ago” (which is the time difference between my location and my server location) instead of “0 mins ago”.

I have updated the time zone using php.ini file to my location timings.

I haven’t checked up in the “members” widget yet.

Please help me with some suggestions.

    Regards,

    Nizam

Have you checked the timezone setting in the WPMU settings?

Oh, and it is worth noting that any changes you make to the timezone won’t be retrospectively applied to the old activity. You’ll have to test if your changes are working with new activity.

    Hi Paul,

I checked with WPMU timezone settings.

I have set the proper time zone settings in it already.

Also I posted this query only after making all the changes. And i found the new activity too shows the “11 hours and 30 mins ago”.

Ah it is a known bug. Check out ticket 257 on the trac. Seems to have a patch attached, not sure if it has been applied to the trunk yet.

This is a known, unfixed issue with wp and thus wpmu and thus bp. It comes from wp using server time instead of gmt time.

    Hi Burtadsit,

    I don’t get your point.

the “Site Wide Activity” is managed by buddypress and the records are stored thru bp code. as up to my knowledge. if this is the case then how can the problem be originated from bp?

your explanation could help me in understanding the problem more and could help me in working out for the solution.

    Hi Smdnizam,

BuddyPress is built on WordPress MU which in turn is built on WordPress. The root cause of this bug is in WordPress. Until WordPress and WordPress MU apply a fix, it won’t appear fixed in BuddyPress.

probably should poke them about it, oh and you could always apply that patch to your local install in the interim.
