always disable plugins before upgrading (best bet is to remove that plugin and add it back after completing the BP upgrade)
ok, i did so … seems to work … but not testet it
Upgraded from 1.2.2.1 to 1.2.3 I got 404s on all my member’s pages. Reinstalled 1.2.2.1 and everything back to normal. I tried this twice.
UPDATE
After commenting out ROOT PROFILES in my config 1.2.3, profiles did not return 404s
define ( ‘BP_ENABLE_ROOT_PROFILES’, true );
Re-enabling ROOT PROFILES caused 404s again.
Who is the author of the “simple_buddypress_profile_privacy” plugin? They need to update their plugin so it doesn’t die if BuddyPress is disabled:

@berryblanton Please try deleting and re-downloading 1.2.3 again. There was a small bug with root profiles, but I updated it pretty quickly after putting it on the repo, so it wasn’t worth re-tagging.
Working fine now. Thanks, Andy!
If this helps anyone. I installed 1.2.3 with wp 2.9.2 in this order.
Backed up my database
Deactivated ALL buddypress add-ons
Set all folder permissions to 777
auto upgrade
activate
activate add-ons
Everything works perfect.
Set folder permission back

After the update, the member’s avatars are not recognized anymore. Does anybody else encounter this?
And how to fix it?
I checked and the phisical avatars are in wp-content/uploads.
Any help?
…and the groups avatars as well!
I also have problems with various avatars
