Hi can you advise if I am better to upgrade to 1.7.1 or delete the current installation and re-install?

My forum/site has yet to be launched and only has a couple of test users. I’m using the latest versions of wordpress and bbpress. Also if I upgrade am I better to switch to a theme like TwentyTwelve as I am using a child theme based on a premium theme.
