Upgrade to 1.5.6 causes forums to disappear and error

  • Wordpress version 3.3.2
    BuddyPress 1.5.6
    bbPress 2.0.3

I was using BuddyPress 1.5.5 (whatever the last stable release was). I downloaded and installed the 1.5.6 version today and went through the ‘update wizard’ of clicking save and continue.

On the last step (4), I get this error:
You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.
    Internal Server Error

    url: admin.php?page=bp-general-settings

Also, now my forums menu link has disappeared from my site’s navigation menu and I can’t navigate directly to the /forums page either. The final step has a checkmark next to Database Update and Finish , then when I click the ‘save and continue’ button, I get the error message.

When returning to my admin pages and clicking on BuddyPress in the sidebar admin menu, it takes me to the last step again which only allows me to click the save button which continues to generate the error.

The previous version was working fine.

  • Just noticed it added ‘members’ to my site’s nav menu, and I specifically said not to use a members page. I have that turned off. So now the new upgrade added a ‘members’ link that goes to a blank page and removed my previously working forums.

    Odd. Is this multisite?

    No.

Deactivate BuddyPress and bbPress. Upgrade to WP 3.4 first. Then activate and upgrade BuddyPress and bbPress to latest versions.

    @mercime

    deactived both
    upgraded wp to 3.4
    activated both

still stuck on step 4, still see same error message
    still can’t access /forums

Now, I’m running 3.4, but all of the problems are just the same.

    Ok. I fixed it.

I saw in the upgrade php file that you’re setting a cookie to keep track of the wizard steps. So I deleted that cookie, refreshed page, access BP menu link. The wizard started on step 4 – upgrade db, clicked save and next, then it showed finish and I clicked save and next.

Now site is working the way it used to work before the upgrade. I don’t remember clicking on ‘save and next’ after the db update. I think the checkmark was already marked and the finish checkmark was already there after wizard step 3.
