Upgrading to 1.1.3 break template changes?

I vaguely recall some development for the 1.1 or previous release that segments the core from the template. The deviation in the code enabled the upgrade through the WP auto-upgrade function instead of the overwrite.

I have developers looking at a number of bugs that appear to have been fixed in 1.1.3 but they’re wondering if upgrading won’t rewrite all the other design changes they’ve been making (footers, etc.). Can anyone clarify what will happen, I can’t find the original thread I saw.

from which version of buddypress you are trying to upgrade ? if 1.0.x ,then you need to update your theme. btw nothing is overwritten(at least the themes) unless you do it manually.

shoot me for always ignoring the cardinal rule of forums and not including that

    BP 1.1.2

    WPMU 2.8.6

It depends how much you have altered.

However, if you’re creating your own child theme off of the bp-sn-parent theme, make sure you have a footer.php (or sidebar.php or whatever) in your child theme folder.

Your footer (and other files) will stay intact on upgrades.
