User registration is currently not allowed

    Hello all,

I am running: WordPress 3.2.13; Buddy Press 1.5, Multisite options, and php 5.2.13

I know that according to various posts on bp that the “User registration is currently not allowed” error is a bug issue that developed with the latest release of bp. I also discovered that the bag-0-fun.patch, at the link below, is the method to repair this bug but I do have a few questions about this patch.

    http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/attachment/ticket/3313/bag-o-fun.patch

Here are my question(s). How / where do I install this patch? Is it a manual patch that I have to update each core page (not good as a bp update would remove this patch) or by using the downloadable patch add it to a centralized location e.g. functions.php, wp-options, or home directory to make this work?

I have never added a patch before so this would greatly help me and perhaps others too.

    Thanks
    SW

You shouldn’t need to apply any patch. In your dashboard, go to Settings > General, and tick “Allow anyone to register”

Thank you. I actually saw the setting under the network admin > settings > network settings > Registration Settings. Now my question is which setting should I check? I am thinking since my site is a new site with no one on it expect me that I could select “Both sites and user accounts can be registered” or should i select “User accounts may be registered.” I guess my real question is what is the difference between the various selections?

    Thanks

You’re running multisite. If you want your users to be able to register their own sites (think like how WordPress.com works), then pick both sites and users. If you just want to allow new user account, just pick users :)
