    @barchiola

    Hi folks,
    We’re running ClassiPress/SimplePress with BuddyPress installed. SimplePress has a PM system that we’ll be deactivating soon so that we can steer everyone to the BuddyPress system.
    One feature we’ll miss though is the way SimplePress presents usernames that may match what you want as you begin to type the user you’re trying to PM. Type a B in the to: field and all of the users with a B in their usernames will be listed there almost immediately.
    Can this be done with BuddyPress? It’s a great little feature and one we’re already starting to miss!
    Thanks
    Bart

    Hi @barchiola

    The @-mentions interface has been recently improved actually. Check out the BuddyPress 2.1 “Patsy” blog post for more info on the revamp.

    it’s not the @-mentions that I’m talking about although the functionality is similar, we’re looking for that suggestions feature in the To: field of the BP PM’s form.
    Thanks,
    Bart

    If you have question about a premium theme like simplepress/classipress, we can’t help you much because we have no access to it. Please ask on their support.

    it’s not a SimplePress issue, it’s a BuddyPress issue. I’m asking if there is a plugin for BuddyPress to add this functionality to the BUDDYPRESS PM system.

    Ah sorry, by PM I thought you may have been referring to public messaging (also known as @-mentions). Auto-complete should work on the private messaging compose screen too. Have you tested?

    @barchiola

    By PM I mean Private Message and when I go to the Private Message screen to send one to a user, username suggestions do not appear in the box as I begin to type letters regardless of whether I start with an @ or not.
    So I guess that this feature doesn’t exist and that there are no plugins to make it work?

    The functionality is available but I think it may work only for a member’s ‘friends’ by default. Take a look at this thread by @r-a-y which discusses how to make the feature work for all users.

    Note: The thread is 4 years old but I assume the code still works.
