Using a wordpress theme for buddypress?

I made the theme I’d like to use (called pride and joy BTW) BP compatible, thanks to the plugin.
Unfortunately, being completely new to this kind of thing, I have no idea how to make it work like a normal buddypress plugin would. How do I get all the tabs back with “community” & etc.?

[not related, but I’d appreciate answers]
Also, how hard do you think CSS is to learn to the extent in which you can design your own child theme?
What programming language do I use to create a more customized experience on my site?

You make a WP theme compatible with BP via the BP Template Pack plugin. The whole process is explained in the first link and an example in the second link.

Learning curve on CSS is relative to time allotted to learning and interest in the subject matter. You can start off with online CSS tutorials and continue from there
