What controls the default behavior of the “excerpts” in the activity feeds?

I am using Gravity Forms to enter content, and have an excerpt field set up. This spits out the excerpt on the category pages, but in the Activity feed, the information gets garbled (when adding a formatted table of information in the body for example), and typically there is no mention of the excerpt that I added. Formatting on both the excerpt and post looks correct on posts.

Any ideas? I’d like to be able to have a lot of control over the activity feed look and feel (of post info) so that users can quickly skim entries and choose the ones they want to read.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!!

Just to be clear, are you referring to the post excerpts in the Activity Stream or are you referring to the site Activity feed as in http://yoursite.com/activity/feed which is quite different. Have you checked out the Gravity Forms forums or contacted the Gravity plugin devs about this?

Morning! Sorry, I meant the former – the information that shows up on mysite.com/activity. I haven’t written on the Gravity Forms support yet, but I did get a response saying that BuddyPress doesn’t use ‘the_excerpt’ for the activity stream.
`About “the_excerpt”, you’ll need to create a plugin by hooking into the filters available in /buddypress/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-activity.php. It might be good for BP to use the_excerpt by default, but a new enhancement ticket should be created for that.`

Wondering how I could implement/take advantage of this as I’ve never created a plugin as was suggested..
