Will buddypress ever support iPhone uploads and mobile app?

There a few things really holding back buddy press and that is mobile app support and the ability to upload images via an iPhone. Will this ever come to buddy press?

I’d love to find out about this too. BuddyPress is awesome and would be fantastic in an app!

There’s a WordPress app that allows iPhone uploads for blogs. Just the straight WordPress app in the store. But you can’t do it via Buddy. You just have to connect your blog to the app and it works out. You have to enable atom publishing.

Try dudamobile plugin or wptouch, you have to pay for wptouch but its suppose to support buddypress.

Kinda Piggybacking off the iPhone Uploads having a “Upload from Url” might work well as an alternative that way it can be worked around to still allow phones to upload images.

    Just a thought.

iOS 6 is only a few months away. It will allow image uploads. However, the cropper in BP does not work. This will get fixed. Be patient, there are a lot of people contributing to bringing awesome features but it takes time.

@modemlooper really I just tried the cropper and it’s working just fine for me

    What does cropper do?

On touch screens the cropper does not work. There is a fix it just hasn’t been put into core. iOS 6 is a few months away. Until then no uploads without using an external native app

@modemlooper …. now that ios6 is coming …. any chance buddypress will put this fix into the core? i think we can finally get off photobucket as our way of sharing photos yes? and this is a tiny bit off topic but what plugin do you recommend for allowing members to share / upload photos? thanks!

iOS 6 allows media uploads. So BP Album+ works. Avatar cropping won’t work until WP 3.5.

Using “BuddyPress Media” plugin, you can upload media files from iOS 6 now

Is this the same case for android phones?

@modemlooper any news on avatar uploads via mobile devices?

Works with ios 6 and up and Android has some support. You need WP 3.5 and BP 1.6 +

    Thanks.

Humm, +1 to WP and BP but seen as Android doesn’t fully support it I see no point in making the feature available to users. I’m still hiding the upload feature on mobile devices via CSS media queries

Almost all newer Androids with os 4+ should be ok. You might as well allow the option. There are just too many Android devices to ever be 100% compatabile. If a Android device doesn’t work it is most likely a browser issue and you can suggest user to install a better browser

With BuddyBoss you can upload photos to your BP profile on a phone. Avatar uploads work too, but the native avatar cropper in BP could still use some work on mobile as it’s too big for some screens.

Is it a CSS fix or did you make changes to jCrop? I’ve been looking through BuddyMobile but can’t find the fix?
