WP dashboard broke when I selected the option to enable bbPress forums

I am having some difficulties installing forums on my buddypress site. All I did was click the option in the WP admin dashboard to “enable bbpress forum”. The two major problems are as follows:

    1. The forum link shows up in my buddypress navigation, but when it is clicked the browser is telling me the page is not being found.
    2. The admin dashboard (e.g. http://www.mywebsiteurl.com/wp-admin) is no longer working. Not only does it not work, but I am getting a server error (HTTP Error 500) when I try to view it.

The ironic part is that I can no longer access the dashboard to disable the forum. I just need to know if there is any way to fix this. I need access to my admin dashboard and if it requires fully forgetting about the forums I can do that for now and work on another solution.

Ideal fix: I would love to have a fix that allows me to access my dashboard and also makes the forum work.

    Please help! :-/

    *bump*

Someone please help! I am completely without a wordpress admin dashboard and can’t continue working on the project until it is back up.

Rename plugins folder in server to e.g. plugins-x via FTP or cpanel to access wp-admin

If you installed internal bbPress forum via dashboard menu > BuddyPress > Forum Setup, it shouldn’t cause any problem with access to your /wp-admin/. Do you mean you installed the beta bbPress plugin?.

I was able to find the file causing the issue after renaming the /buddypress/ folder to /buddypress-abc/.

After gaining access to the admin board I started deleting files one at a time and found that if I delete bp-forums.php in the main buddypress directory the dashboard problem was solved. That is, I was able to have buddypress working at the same time as my dashboard.

I never installed a beta version. All I did was click the “enabled” option for forums in the Component Setup area of buddypress settings in the dashboard. Now that I’ve deleted the bp-forums.php file, that option is no longer available in my dashboard.

If at all possible, I would love to be able to re-enable it if I can figure out how to get it to actually work. But if I upload the file back then the admin breaks again. Any ideas?
