WPMU 2.9.2 or WP 3.0 RC2?

  • PJ

Which is a good one to install. They say WP 3.0 does multiple blogs but the WP 3.0 RC2 is the exact same as regular WP with some cool new layouts.

If I want to have multiple blogs on my site on or after WP MU 2.9.2 what will happen? If it’s moving in the direction of the RC2 I’m a bit unsure of what to expect. Please let me know. If this has been answered please put a link to the discussion thread. Thanks.

wait for version 3.0 to be release
wpmu2.9.2 is basically a merge of standalone wordpress and wpmu.
you can enable multisite (wpmu) in 3.0 by a simple wp-config.php file edit

@pjnu – I would use WPMU 2.9.2. You could already start developing and testing in WPMU 2.9.2./BP where there are many versions-compatible BP plugins to play with. Furthermore, upgrading from WPMU to WP 3.0 is so much easier than setting up WP 3.0 and making it multisite (so many steps). Also, WP 3.0 rc2 with BP is still quirky and many BP plugins do not work with the new set up as Pages will be used in rendering BP components. Just my 2cents to avoid frustration.

Thank you both. It seems like WPMU 2.9.2 is the safest bet. I hope the WP 3.0 normal release will continue to let me have multiple blogs with my clients.

@intimez that’s good to know that it’s a simple edit. I’m sure that it will be a FAQ item or topic of discussion when we cross that bridge.

@pjnu it’s a simple edit plus a few additional steps once the menu items have been activated for the dashboard by the config change. If you already have a WPMU setup WP 3.0 detects that and you shouldn’t have to go through the MS setup procedure.

RC3! only caught up with RC2 last night :)
