WPMU or standard WordPress?

I read the changelog, since v1.2, buddypress can install in standard WordPress

But what the different between WPMU and standard ver.?

Any different on function??

And i saw WordPress.org Blog, it said in future release ,maybe v3.0, it no longer WPMU, so ……

The only difference is that if you use MU then your users can create blogs.
