Plugin News
We’re starting to see the number of BuddyPress plugins growing rapidly, there are now more than 125 available for you to try out. Some of most popular BuddyPress plugins currently available are:
BuddyPress Tweetstream – allow your users to sync and post to their twitter stream.
BuddyPress Like – add a “like” button to site activity.
BuddyPress Links – rich media embedding for your BuddyPress powered site.
BuddyPress Album+ – allow your users to upload photos and create albums.
BuddyPress Group Documents – add file upload and document repositories to your groups.
BuddyPress Profile Privacy – allow your users to set privacy options on their profile data.
BuddyPress Welcome Pack – set defaults for new users, auto join them to groups or send welcome messages.
BuddyPress Group Blog (WordPress MU only) – allow your groups to include a fully functional WordPress blog.
BuddyPress Group Wiki – add wiki functionality to your groups so all members can contribute to pages.
Be sure to check all of the plugins out on the BuddyPress plugins page. If you’d like to develop a BuddyPress plugin then a great place to start is with the BuddyPress Skeleton Component. This plugin will provide you with all the basic starting points you need to build brand new BuddyPress features.
You’ve got the wrong link for the wiki plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-wiki/
You are doing a wonderful job but please take a look at the backward compatibility plugin. The Classic theme doesn’t work.
I’m falling behind in upgrades to a production site as I wait for a custom theme to be developed. I can’t upgrade because the classic theme won’t work. Click on “blog” and it gives “page you were looking for was not found.”
Hi, can I get validator rights on Finnish BuddyPress translation project (on here https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/buddypress/dev/fi/default )? Thanks! WP.org’s Username: Apuasi
Sorry if this is a stupid question, a lot has moved around since the original site.. but where are manual upgrade instructions?
I didn’t see any on the installation tab in the WP plug repo, or near the download link here..
Assuming I can just ftp the new version to overwrite the old, but I hate to assume!
Yes you can simply upgrade automatically. The upgrade instructions are linked on the upgrade message in your WordPress installation plugin screen:
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/upgrading-from-10x/
Sorry, I can’t do automatic upgrades, I have to FTP the files with that server. SO I can just ftp the new files, or perhaps I should delete the old files in the buddy press plugin folder, and then upload new?
@Djstev: Yes, that’s what I did. I deactivated all my plugins first, then deactivated the Buddypress plugin, then I deleted the entire Buddypress plugin via FTP, and then I finally uploaded the new Buddypress pluin via FTP.
The tweetstream plugin cannot be activated. I have upgraded to the latest budypress and using simple wordpress.
I really like BuddyPress now requires users to activate their account through an activation link to ensure we have valid email addresses in our user database, *but* BP lets you easily change your email address afterwards to a non-existing one without any further reactivation. I hope this ‘oversight’ will be corrected in a future version and I would *love* to see this in WordPress (Core) as well. I still think WordPress’ user registration system is flawed as opposed to popular forum software (which almost always require you to reactivate your account after any email change).
Will you please consider this for a future release? Thanks!
+1 I completely agree with Jean-Paul. Users make way too many mistakes when editing their email addresses..

Thanks for those plugins and the updates. Do you have any info about the their stability? Crashed my site several weeks ago with a plugin.
The BuddyPress Profile Privacy plugin is very practical. In addition, I would welcome other plugins which would add new functions or features to member profiles, such as a guest books, voting for pictures, setting a category of photos private, other members visited a profile (user-name/date/time), and so on; to make members’ profiles more interactive and jazzy. Thank you for the new BP version!

So is anyone successfully using a plugin that creates BuddyPress profiles from a Facebook login? I’ve tried several but I can’t fine one that works with current MU/BP versions?
Great list by the way. It really is cool to see people writing plugins. The community is growing.
