I agree… the activity stream give me headache and I wonder why it is styled like it is…
@baberjaved Not yet, but I believe someone on the forums was working on something like that. Dig around and you’ll find the post and pictures.
oembed plugin is not like FB activity style !
@djpaul he is asking for post-form attachments similar to FB style
Consider my offer of help revoked, then.
there is the embed half so at least its getting there.
On a related note, one thing Facebook does really well is filtering and post type identification. In BuddyPress… all updates look about the same. A small icon for each type of event (friend add, new forum post, etc.) would go a LONG way to making the stream easier to understand at a glance.
Also… the filter menu is kind of a mess. I would get rid of the “Show Show Show” text… makes is much harder to scan. And I also think I would not hide the filters in a drop down where they are much less likely to ever be used. Facebook has a linked list with icons for filtering. Much nice interface than a drop down.
I know some of the icon stuff might be possible via theme development. I’ll look into that. But it would be nice if the default theme itself included more default visual cues. It’s pretty much 100% text-based right now.
Lest I have to revoke like Paul, I think this plugin (paid) has some of the features for posting videos/pictures in the activity stream: http://buddydev.com/buddypress/introducing-bp-gallery-rc4-for-buddypress-time-to-get-stable-in-next-week-now/ Although, I don’t know for sure since I can’t bring myself to pay for it. Too much of a fan of open source and the benefits of open source.

each activity type is tagged with a css class – should be easy to add something in
I’m surprised now has made such a thing :S
I am looking for such kind of Activity-stream as well. Currently there is too much information within the Activity-stream which is confusing.
Additionally, it is very hard to customize the Layout of the current activity-stream.
anyone has ideas how to do this ?
@lincme
great job on your theme, exactly what I was looking for !
works like a charm and easy to customize !
Check out http://www.buddyboss.com/demo. The theme has a built-in Facebook Wall. It doesn’t allow for picture uploads but it works just like a Facebook wall and you can add videos in via oEmbed. Full disclosure: I built that theme.
