When I posted the above I didn’t remember where I got it from but while researching a related issue, I found:

I haven’t tried logging in or registering but I can’t get chrome to crash…

The register page is ok although it puts me in CA without filling in any details – I’m in the uk….

This buddypress site uses google translate – though without a plugin.

Have you tried putting

Did you put the at the bottom of the file with no spaces (or anything else) before the first tag or after the last?

It means wordpress has run out of memory….

Ask your host to increase it. If they won’t ( for instance you host with 1and1 ) then look here and here

I don’t think he is saying to edit core files … you should never do that if you can avoid it! I would try putting it in functions.php in your theme or child theme directory. Or in a bp-custom.php file in your plugins directory… If you don’t have either then use a text editor to create one. […]

To enable wp-admin have you tried disabling the bp-code-snippets plugin by using ftp to delete or change name of the plugin directory causing wordpress to deactivate that plugin?

WordPress has run out of memory!
This sort of thing was discussed here and here
Or ask your hosting provider if they can increase the memory available….
