here’s the fun part: wp-content folders and all the way down to the avatars are 750. It makes the folders fine, just squawks at me.

Is there a check for 755 specifically?

Nope, it’s not even after that. It’s right on the registration page as soon as you visit. which is why its weird – we haven’t even got to the image part yet.

“and doesn’t send registration emails when users try to sign up”

Not send emails isn’t a function o the registration page. Your members probably are not recievng emails, which is a different issue.

Use the built-in widget that comes with buddypress?

Don’t edit the plugin. The changes WILL be overwritten. There’s tons of hooks everywhere and a different process for doing things, depending on what you wanted to change.

What are you tying to do?

JJJ’s been working on it for maybe a week. I’m sure he’ll straighten it out soon. :)

Are you receiving email from wordpress?

Not sending emails and not getting them are two different things. what that support email told you to do won;t actually help, as some mails are sent as wordpress@yourdoman.com and they get rejected on the recipient’s end.

When mu was merged, it was renamed to a network. Sometimes it’s referred to as multisite, as that is what the functions are called. But the admin area is “network”.

So your “network” is not the same as what we mean. ;)

You need a privacy plugin to do that, so you can set the site to be for logged in users only.

My partner Ron wrote it. The post linked to our blog. Have you tried it on a test site?

The nesting of the sites themselves comes from WordPRess with multisite enabled. BP only does the community parts.

    link to your site please.

on activation BP hceck for a BP theme and will show a yellow alert message in the Appearance menu. do you see it? All BP pages are on the front of the site, but you have to be using a compatible theme.

And if you really don;t have wildcards.. move to a new host that does. Seriously. There’s less work & pain in moving to a new host than there would be to have any kind of workaround.

Emails are unrelated to the theme.

Likely, as we;ve covered many times previously – the emails are not being *recieved* which is a different issue. Please search, and if you still can;t find an answer post a new thread.

They are tied in with wordpress.org accounts. Not sure you can.

    Just stop posting?

Oh, they never are “done”. :D The community I started 4+ years ago is still going & still being changed every few months. Gotta change or die.

well there is the BuddyPress for Dummies book available.

That manual is a third party resource – not an official one.

The subdomains & subfolder parts are controlled by multisite, not buddypress. And you can’t mix ’em. Not even with multiple networks (unless you want to map those subdomains, but I’m guessing you do not).

SO ya can’t find it cuz it’s not really easily do-able. Not without two installs.

Why not just have it all in one site? Why can’t the users have theirsite.yourdomain.com? They’ll still show up in the BP stuff.
