I have just discovered the global variable $bp Using that we can skip the SV_HOME_LINK parts above and do it with a function, that we put in bp-suctom.php:

function sv_get_homelink()

{

global $bp;

return $bp->root_domain;

}

Now we can use

echo sv_get_homelink()

instead of

echo get_option('home')

in header.php.

Substitute TEMPLATEPATH with STYLESHEETPATH and it should work

switch_to_blog( $blog_id );

update_option('stylesheet', 'YOUR_TEMPLATE_NAME');

}

put the above code into your bp-custom.php file and it’ll use the template you specified instead of YOUR_TEMPLATE_NAME.

You get the forum activated in the backend under BuddyPress->Forums Setup. You can find the information that makes up your frontpage in a file called home.php in your child theme folder. The forum stuff you find in directories->forums->index.php. You could copy everything, except the sidebar bit over to home.php, but there’ll probably be some CSS issues, cause home.php is completely widgetized. So it’ll make more sense to package the forum stuff up as a widget and drop it in the first-section sidebar.

The rest (memberlist,groups,mesageboards) is set up automatically for you by BuddyPress.

Danf, I’ll do it as a plugin I guess. I’m making the theme for the site I need this functionality at the moment and after that I’ll start on the plugin. I’ve done a fair bit of regular old WP stuff, but no MU or BuddyPress to date, so it might still be a little while until it’s ready for release. Are you interested in helping me test it, when I get to that stage?
