There is something that you can do, though it’ll mess up activity pagination (which, in the case of AJAX loading, means that the number of activity items loaded when you click “load more” will not always be the same number). It involves filtering bp_has_activities, looping through $activities_template->activities, and removing those items that are new blog posts from your blog.
Here’s an example of the technique, used to remove self-replies: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/requests-feedback/forum/topic/couple-thoughts/?topic_page=2&num=15#post-112100
In reply to: Do Not Understand BuddyPressHeh heh.
BuddyPress is a complex piece of software. For some sites, groups will be the best choice for community engagement – traditional forums, along with all the benefits of group extension plugins (BuddyPress Docs, BP Group Documents, etc). For some sites, the interactive activity stream will be better suited to fostering community – sort of like Twitter or Facebook. It’s highly recommended that you set up and configure your BuddyPress installation first by determining the needs of your site, and then by enabling and disabling components as necessary.
In reply to: Do Not Understand BuddyPressThe goal of BuddyPress is to maximize your site’s excellence.
It’s possible that the Custom Community theme is written in such a way that the JavaScript from bp-default will not work properly. If I get a chance sometime this week I may take a look myself, but I urge you in the meantime to contact the theme’s author. By changing some CSS selectors, the author may have broken this particular function.
In reply to: Warning: Cannot modify header informationDoes that mean you have a line of whitespace at line 1? Try removing it. `<?php` should be the very first characters in the file.
Sounds like you may have the activity component disabled. Check at Dashboard > BuddyPress > Components.
In reply to: Don’t Inherit BP-Default CSS Child Theme> I wish Codex was written more in depth
The Codex is written and maintained by volunteers. As @mercime was so kind as to jump in and explain what’s up, maybe you could be so kind as to edit the relevant page

Also, some of these issues have been in flux through the end of the 1.5 dev cycle. In any case, what @mercime wrote is essentially the same thing that I wrote – you must have been writing the paths wrong.
Thanks for your patience!
In reply to: Don’t Inherit BP-Default CSS Child ThemeIf you’re going to override bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles(), then you’ll need to enqueue your own stylesheet. ie
`if ( !function_exists( ‘bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles’ ) ) :
function bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles() {
wp_enqueue_style( ‘my-stylesheet’, WP_CONTENT_URL . ‘/themes/my-theme/style.css’ );
}
endif;`@qrahaman Check out this work-in-progress: https://github.com/boonebgorges/bp-better-directories
In reply to: bp_has_members – bp_ajax_querystringCan you be more specific about what you mean when you say that the include parameter doesn’t work? By design, the include parameter overrides all others.
I’ll give it a test tomorrow if I remember, but in any case, it’ll never get fixed if there’s no Trac ticket. Trac.buddypress.org. Please provide all the details and steps to reproduce that you can.
In reply to: What is up with the Buddybar / Admin Bar?Heh, yes, that will do it. I suppose that maybe WP itself should be more clear about where you can modify wp-config.php
I think that this is a decent candidate for a patch. Feel free to work it up as one and attach it to that ticket.
In reply to: What is up with the Buddybar / Admin Bar?> I just updated to 1.5.1 — was this not a stable release?
Yes, it’s a stable release. It could be that there is a bug.
Are you using a custom theme? And what does “doesn’t work” mean? Can you be specific about what happens when you click the links? Any chance you could open a Javascript debugging console like the one in Firebug and look for errors?
I just tested on testbp.org and on my local installations, and the ‘read more’ link seems to be working fine on activity comments.
> It all worked just dandy before the BP 1.5 upgrade.
The ‘read more’ links, that expand with jQuery, were new additions in BP 1.5. So it couldn’t have worked before the upgrade – it didn’t exist.

In reply to: bp_groups_default_extensionIt works like any other definable constant in BuddyPress, or any other filterable value. Do one of the following:
1) In wp-config.php or bp-custom.php,
`define( ‘BP_GROUPS_DEFAULT_EXTENSION’, ‘forum’ );`2) In a plugin file or bp-custom.php,
`function bbg_set_group_default_extension( $ext ) {
return ‘forum’;
}
add_filter( ‘bp_groups_default_extension’, ‘bbg_set_group_default_extension’ );`In reply to: [Resolved] Help with bp conditionalsWeird. I just tried inserting the following into an existing widget and it worked fine

Does is_front_page() work properly if you put it in the template that produces the content itself? It could be that something about your setup is keeping the front page from being recognized as such.
In reply to: [Resolved] Help with bp conditionalsI would have thought that `is_home()` or `is_front_page()` would work properly. When you say that these functions don’t work, do you mean that the excerpts are not appearing where they should, or that they’re appearing where they shouldn’t?
In reply to: Language files deleted after upgrading #2> You need to convert that .pot into a .mo file.
I think that you also need to change the file name so that it includes a text domain, and then specify that textdomain in your config file. Eg, buddypress-BBG.mo, and `define( ‘WPLANG’, ‘BBG’ );` (I think.)
In reply to: a little bug in bp-skeleton 1.6Good catch! I’ll fix it in the next version. Here’s a ticket so I don’t forget: https://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-skeleton-component/issues/3
In reply to: Issues with BuddyPress 1.5.1 and some historic ones.> (Obviously he had not activated the account before).
Wasn’t really that obvious from what you’d posted above! In any case, if you’re correct, then something is clearly going wrong somewhere – maybe the wrong key is getting sent or something. Are you using a plugin that changes how user registration works?
No problem – happy to get accurate issue reports, however they may come in

Yes, it’s a change: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3378#comment:2
The plugin you’re using is using for search is using core functions to render the dropdowns. That’s great, of course. But, in all the ways that the dropdowns are used in BP core, it does *not* make sense to have a null option for required dropdowns. So, while it’s inconvenient and I wish it had been raised at an earlier point, I think it’s incumbent on the plugin to create the fields in the way necessary for the plugin’s functionality to work right.
Alternatively, I would be happy to see a patch for BP that allows bp_get_the_profile_field_options() to take an argument along the lines of show_null_value_for_required (maybe not that wordy, but you get the idea). That way, we could default to false (1.5 behavior) but allow the 1.2.x behavior optionally, at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-template.php?annotate=blame&rev=5230#L431. It would be an easy patch to write; I encourage you to do it yourself, or at least to open a ticket for it.
@valuser Yes, that’s it. I’ve opened a ticket https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3697
