    A couple things –

    – You need an `if` before `bp_has_profile`, eg `( if ( bp_has_profile( ‘profile_group_id=1,3,4’ ) ) ) :`
    – You’ll need to close the ifs and whiles; before the final `}` put `endwhile; endif;`
    – You need to actually display some content after bp_the_profile_group();. Look at the xprofile templates (bp-themes/bp-default/profile…) to get a sense of the template tags you’ll use inside of the loop to display content.

    Many URLs in BP (and even WP) are generated with the username. Those URLs are then used to create links in, eg, activity items, which are then stored as plaintext in the database. In other words, many of those links will break if you change the username.

    I can’t reproduce the problem. The Max number on the widget works fine for me. What version of WP/BP are you using? Are you using other themes/plugins?

    Having existing users on the forum definitely makes it more complicated. But in the end, any integration plugin is going to have a username/user_id cross-reference, so you’d just have to write a script that does the initial setup with your existing users.

    Your other option is to try to modify BP’s internal bbPress to do what you want it to do. The biggest hangup will be subcategories, which you might be able to fake with something like forum tags. But this path might be easier, given that you wouldn’t have to deal with cross-platform issues.

    Cool idea. This can be done using the bp_get_activity_css_class filter hook. For instance,
    `
    function boone_add_activity_class( $class ) {
    global $activities_template;

    if ( strpos( $activities_template->activity->content, ‘#red’ ) !== false )
    $class .= ‘ red’;

    return $class;
    }
    add_filter( ‘bp_get_activity_css_class’, ‘boone_add_activity_class’ );`

    If you add that to your bp-custom.php, it will add the ‘red’ css class to every activity item whose content contains the #red hashtag. You can add more hashtags as needed according to the same pattern.

    Then just define your CSS rules, eg
    `ul.activity-list .red { background: #f00 }`

    Marc R – What you want to do with groups would be pretty hard to do, given the way that public/private groups currently work in BP. There *might* be a way to do it using only hooks and filters (which would essentially switch the status back and forth from public to private depending on what is needed in the particular situation), but probably you would have to essentially reproduce the entire groups component and change the way that the core component code works, ie so that it’s like a private group except with publically-viewable content.

    It’s a good idea for a future enhancement to BP, though. The current public/private/hidden distinction for groups probably shouldn’t be so reliant on hardcoding in BP core.

    For purposes of a single installation of BuddyPress, the main difference is when the files are loaded. Actions and filters in bp-custom.php are among the very first things loaded when BP is loaded. functions.php isn’t loaded until the theme is loaded, after all of the BP components. So if you need something to be loaded early, it’ll have to go into bp-custom.php.

    Group integration is a biggie. Events and calendars should be able to be group- as well as member-specific.

    Activity and bp-notification integration would be nice too.

    I don’t know of anyone who has integrated punBB and BP. Here’s a plugin to share logins between the two systems: http://www.rkblog.rk.edu.pl/w/p/punbb-and-wordpress-integration-plugin/. The group-level management stuff would probably have to be custom coded.

    I’m not aware of anyone who has integrated a different forum software into BP that will meet your list of criteria, though maybe someone else in this forum has.

    BuddyPress applies the wpautop filter when it displays xprofile field data. So what is stored in the db as `/n` or `/r` should be converted to `

    …

    ` on the way out. If you’re not seeing line breaks at all, it could be one of two things: 1) your stylesheet is displaying paragraphs as inline elements, or 2) something in a plugin or theme is turning off wpautop. What happens when you deactivate plugins and use bp-default?

    Drop all the tables that start with wp_bp_. There are also a few options in the wp_options table (or wp_sitemeta on a network install) that start with bp_ but they probably won’t affect bbPress installation.

    @paulhastings0 Thanks for the reminder about the bp.org group forum. I’ve activated it now. As for whether to activate it on BP.org – no, this isn’t the one that I was talking about, though it would be very nice to have better (any) feed support here on this site. I need to do some load testing on the plugin before activating it here, but I’ll look into it. Good idea.

    @modemlooper That is the creepiest thing I have seen in a long time

    Actually, you wouldn’t have to change the way data is stored – you could still store height in inches only. But you would need to customize the template markup, so that when the Height field is displayed, the value from the database would have to be transformed into feet/inches with a little bit of math. You’d also have to do some transformations at the time that the items are saved so that the feet/inches is turned into inches before being saved. The hooks are there, you just need to do a bit of work to make it happen.

    Your question isn’t really clear. Are you looking for a way to delete activity items/updates? Or are you talking about forum topics/posts?

    The problem with hooking to bp_complete_signup is that it’s not called from within a template, so your code probably echoes above the entire template stuff. You have to find a hook in the template, and there aren’t really any obvious ones. Here’s one thing you might try (untested):

    `function postSignup_msg() {
    if ( ‘completed-confirmation’ == bp_get_current_signup_step() ) {
    echo “blah blah blah”;
    }
    }
    add_action( ‘template_notices’, ‘postSignup_msg’ );`

    It’s kind of an abuse of what template_notices is meant to do, but it might work.

    I don’t know of a plugin that could do it, but it’s a nice idea!

    A couple ways you might go about it:
    1) Filter the output of bp_has_groups() to unset those groups that the user is not a mod/admin of. Pro: You could do this pretty easily right now. Con: Not terribly efficient in terms of queries and cpu cycles
    2) Write your own custom MySQL query to get those groups. Pro: Efficient. Con: You don’t get to use the group loop.
    3) Submit a ticket at trac.buddypress.org to have that kind of bp_has_groups() parameter put into BP core. Then you get the best of both worlds, though not until at least BP 1.3

    Good luck!

    It sounds like you didn’t run the bbPress setup installer, or that something went wrong during that setup process.

    Go to Dashboard > BuddyPress > Forum Setup, and click Setup a new bbPress installation. Re-install if it asks you to.

    If it still doesn’t work, check to make sure there’s a bb-config.php file in the root of your WordPress installation, and that the credentials in that file are correct.

    The easiest thing to do is to copy registration/register.php from bp-default into your child theme. Search for the place where Sign Up Complete! appears, and put your additional paragraph after that.

    I have to agree that Bowe’s theme does look pretty, uh, slick. His video walkthrough is worth watching: vimeo.com/15053425 (Also not a paid endorsement :) )

    For what it’s worth, Paul’s awesome snufflewufflepants patch will make this easier in BP 1.3 https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2649

    In the meantime, hnla and Roger’s advice is good.

    @pelleas Do you have the Friends component turned on? Dashboard > BuddyPress > Component Setup

    It’s up to individual plugin authors to include such a button, since WordPress itself isn’t really aware of the extra databases being created. I agree that it’s good practice for a plugin to include a button like this. But since BP doesn’t have one, it’s pretty simple to just drop the tables in question when you’re done using the plugin.

    (1) and (2) don’t require BuddyPress at all. For (2) you can use a custom post taxonomy or a custom post type (or plain old categories) to distinguish your own articles from your users’ content.

    As for (3), BuddyPress doesn’t have a rating system built in. There are a lot of WordPress rating plugins, and I’m sure one of them could be adapted to work with BP.

    Avatar upload forms appear in two places. One is registration/register.php, the other is members/single/profile/change-avatar.php. Create a child theme of bp-default (https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/) with those two files, and then edit the HTML to your heart’s content.

    @boonebgorges

    This sometimes happens if your bb-config.php file is missing or incorrect, and BP can’t find your bbPress database information. The error logs will tell you whether that’s the case.
