    How can I also make it so that the fields on the profile page are to be filled out when you have signed up and not on the registration page?

    The fields added into the primary profile field group, named “Base” by default, will get collected on registration. The ones added to other profile field groups do not get collected on registration and are optionally added by users after register. So just make some profile field groups and put the fields you want to collect on registration into the Base profile field group, and the additional fields into another profile field group(s).

    Yes, the user’s uploaded BP avatar should automatically display in his/her comments, assuming the user is logged in while commenting.

    Cool, glad you got it resolved.

    Thanks! I’ll play with that plugin and see how they implemented the user field data. And yes I’ll make sure to cut off the plugin from updates and back up my edits.

    Not sure what the problem is, but this is the code it’s referencing:

    	$result = bp_blogs_validate_blog_form();
    	extract($result);

    	if ( $errors->get_error_code() ) {
    		unset($_POST['submit']);
    		bp_show_blog_signup_form( $blogname, $blog_title, $errors );
    		return false;
    	}

    bp_blogs_validate_blog_form specifically seems to be part of the problem. Do you have multisite enabled on your preproduction site?

    I’m guessing the URL path to the image is linking to your other site, possibly a local development site with “localhost” in the URL?

    Anyways, find out the broken URL fragments and update them all to the correct URL of your new site. This plugin helps to update all of the URLs in one instant: https://wordpress.org/plugins/velvet-blues-update-urls/

    Likely in your s2member setup, you are integrating some BuddyPress functionality and since BP is deactivated the s2member plugin is throwing up an error. So now you are locked out of your admin.

    There is a simple solution if you have access to FTP.

    Just rename your ‘wp-content/plugins’ folder to ‘wp-content/_plugins’. Note the underscore.

    This will instantly deactivated all plugins, as WordPress will not be able to load the plugins directory. Then you should be able to log in again. If you rename _plugins back to plugins, then your plugins will load again. So maybe rename s2member so it deactivates, then reactivate BuddyPress and then s2member after.

    @stefan83 Did you ever figure this out? I’m looking to do the same.

    Awesome! Happy that’s what you were looking for.

    They should automatically show up if you added them correctly in Users > Profile Fields. So I’m guessing it was added incorrectly or there is some theme issue.

    This is the code at that line:

    	// Highlight the current page
    	$current = bp_get_requested_url();
    	if ( strpos( $current, $menu_item->url ) !== false ) {
    		$menu_item->classes[] = 'current_page_item';
    	}

    This error occurs when the second parameter to strpos is empty. So the current menu item is considered as an empty value.

    I’m not sure why though. But maybe someone else can step in with a solution. Also make sure your server has a modern version of PHP running.

    You could use Google News to set up stories related to that content:
    https://news.google.com/

    And then set up a Google News plugin that feeds in the data.
    Something like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-google-news/

    Not sure if that’s the best option (haven’t tried it) but you could search through the WP plugin repo to find a good Google News plugin and get it to sync in the stories you want.

    Understandable. Excited to check out the first big release.

    No problem. Have you tried switching themes to see if that resolves it? You should do that first so that you actually know it is a theme issue.

    In your theme, look for, starting at your root directory in WP:

    /wp-content/themes/[theme-name]/buddypress/members/single/home.php

    Is that in your theme? If not, then disregard this theory, at least in regards to your theme. If so, then please post the code from that template here and I’ll take a look at it.

    If you are comfortable looking into code, there is a high probability (I think) that the cause of this conflict is coming from a template edit in /members/single/home.php. That template could be in a theme or plugin, as BP allows themes and plugins to interact/override these template files. BP 1.9 introduced new notifications functions, and it’s possible that code not anticipating the new notifications functions is running and causing an issue. That specific template (/members/single/home.php) is supposed to call the Notifications template, and if your theme/plugin is overriding home.php you may get a conflict. Just a guess.

    It may be a compatibility issue between the latest BP and your theme. Have you tried switching to another theme?

    @buddyboss

    Are you able to see the actual Notification page with all of its content? Or is it mostly blank with that error?

    If you’re looking to pay someone, I can help out (or one of my developers). I don’t have time to partner on a project like this, but could do a few paid hours here and there to do code review, refinement, etc.

    Caching BuddyPress often leads to problems in my experience. There are other methods to speed it up. Do you need all of those plugins. They’re all doing things (writing to the DB possibly) and many probably load their own JS and CSS files. That is part of what bogs down site speed.

    For the email issue, did you happen to migrate your database at any point in time? In the DB users and messages are all tied to each other and it’s possible that the IDs got messed up in your DB somehow, so messages are going to the wrong recipients.

    Sorry I didn’t explain this as well as I could have. You shouldn’t need a lot of servers, just one very good server. So if you’re using cheap shared hosting at $5-10/mo, that’s not going to cut it once your site scales up large. In that scenario you’re sharing bandwidth and resources with many other sites, and the server itself (which is just a computer really) is likely not all that fast if you’re not paying much. You can rent your own server, or a virtual private server, and it can have very high specs all dedicated to your site. Like 24 cores, 2-4gb RAM, etc. That will be fast. You can get that for $50-$100/mo depending on what you choose/need. And you can always migrate a site from one server setup to another. A developer experienced in moving sites can usually do this within a day.

    A HUGE site does need multiple servers. Facebook for example probably has thousands of servers all around the world. But keep in mind how much raw data they must serve. A BP site at 100,000 users can probably be delivered from one database, from one server. The guiding strategy is to take as much load off of that server as possible, and then make sure the server is good enough to handle what is left without crashing or stalling with not enough RAM. “caching” at the server level is a method to take load off of the server. Using a CDN takes load off of the server. etc.

    I’m sure speed is an issue that the BP team thinks a lot about, but it’s a hard one to tackle as people are all customizing everything and it’s not really best practice to include caching within plugins. Although best practice isn’t everything, because in reality a solid caching system for BP would solve a lot of speed issues. It would need to cache individual components and break them live with AJAX, or something like that – not my expertise. I can imagine this interfering with many custom setups and plugins however, so like I said, probably not a simple fix.

    I just tested “bp-remove-profile-links” as posted by modemlooper, and it works for me on BP 1.9.1. Maybe a plugin conflict?

    Test your register/activate pages. If they work, you’re probably just fine.
