Not everyone is using ‘deep integration’. There’s other wonderful whackyness involved in that. Don’t think you are using that are you? Anyway group forums is built on the xmlrpc comm for talking to bbpress. It’s what we got that works in all installs.

Great minds. Workaround is the obvious. If it hurts when you do that, don’t do that.Maybe there’s a way to just issue a warning or close the topic automatically before it reaches the magic limit. Whatever that is, for whatever reason it exists.
Start a new topic please.
In reply to: Large (character count) forum posts fail to showI have a string that is 455K in Size. I tried creating an XML Node
with this string as it’s value, but the string always gets cut off at
about 83K –
In reply to: Large (character count) forum posts fail to showWhat does the error log say about this? Anything? I found that right before the xmlrpc server sends the data it does strlen() on what it\\\’s gonna send. Then it sends it as one giant string. Over 64K and what happens? Looking to see if there is an inherent limit on string lengths.
I see what that LM… thread is about. As far as I can tell, xmlrpc in bbpress isn\’t limiting the num of \’things\’ returned. However it returns all the \’things\’ in one big string. It builds up the entire xml response and sends it.
In reply to: Large (character count) forum posts fail to showOk. Thanks. We are posting around each other here and I missed that post of his.
In reply to: Large (character count) forum posts fail to show\”Copy 80,000 or so characters into the topic\”
I don\’t know why I find those directions amusing but I do. Anyway. What is the LSMaxSearchCount post you are talking about. That doesn\’t even seem to be in the forums here. Did a search. That doesn\’t even seem to be a likely bp, mu or bbpress var. They don\’t use camel case. Can you point me to that post please?I do see this happening on your site. I have to make sure I’m looking at the right xmlrpc code on the bbpress side. There are two ‘get the topic’ functions. I have to check and make sure I track things from beginning to end. Don’t want to be looking at code that isn’t being used on the bbpress xmlrpc side.
Gimme a few.
In reply to: Large (character count) forum posts fail to showHmm. Ya, you might be right. xmlrpc may have an inherent limit on the size of the returned data in xml. Wow. That *might* have been the problem you were running into also. I don’t think it’s a memory limit thing for the server. It might be related to the IXR server that does the grunt work.
Good call John.
In reply to: Large (character count) forum posts fail to showHmm. I see what you are saying though. Perhaps it does have something to do with the xmlrpc comm stuff. The underlying bbpress_live code gets a topic and all the replies in one gulp. Doesn\\\’t matter if there is 1 reply or 100. It gets them all.
Put\\\’s me on the right track. OK. Off to investigate.
Well, maybe I remember incorrectly. There does seem to be pagination code in there.
There’s pagination code in there but bbpress ignores the pagination parameters. We get the topic and all replies. That’s what I remember. It’s coming back to me now. Still looking.
In reply to: Large (character count) forum posts fail to showHow long winded do I have to be before it fails? Gonna go look at the issue but need some idea of text len that kills it.
As usual it’s confusing as to *where* you are posting the text. If you do this, ‘big chunk of text’ as reply repeatedly from the bp group forums side, *what* happens? The bp side is where the failure is?
In reply to: [Resolved] Xprofile question….I\’m trying to remember back when, when the $bp global var was still an array. If you are on a version of bp that is that way then I *think* the var you are searching for is: $bp[\’loggedin_userid\’]
If you are on a more recent ver then the var is $bp->loggedin_user->id
Don’t forget to turn off the lights as you leave the room please.
In reply to: Topic escape charactersHi Mike. The escape char issue here probably doesn’t have anything to do with your install. It’s related to this install of bbpress more than likely. What do you mean that you have the same issue. This kinda thing was solved some time ago.
I was just in that thread and didn’t notice anything odd. Perhaps Andy just installed the filter goodies needed for that.
Try the bp job board Kathleen. https://buddypress.org/groups/buddypress-job-board Gotta close this topic.
In reply to: How to remove the search/login barWell, thanks Andy. I guess it helps to actually read the post first. Remind me not to go into the forums before I’ve had a cup of coffee. I see the word ‘bar’ and read admin bar. Never mind Phil. Cancel all that. Do what Andy says.
In reply to: The Wire and Groups IssueLet’s just hit it with a hammer. Upgrade to the latest trunk.
In reply to: The Wire and Groups IssueAny error msgs in your apache logs? The first thing that loader.php does is try to fire up wp-load.php. If it’s crashing with a fatal err there, nothing happens afterwards. No css. You have bp installed in a subdir. Lemme go check that preg_replace() regex.
That can’t be it. It’s the same file for both member and groups. Check the err logs.
In reply to: Open all external links in a new windowa href=”http://www.example.com/ ” target=”_blank”
That will open in a new tab or new window. The user determines which one by browser settings. That combined with Manoj’s suggestion should work.
In reply to: Admin bar mouseover issueIt’s not fixed in trunk either it seems. It’s back. Happening here also. I’ll put in a trac ticket.
In reply to: How to remove the search/login barnp Phil. I’m building up a little database of these kind of things and stuffing them into my new dev group here: https://buddypress.org/groups/code-snippets-solution-library
Soon as Andy gets the group forums up and running.
In reply to: Admin bar mouseover issueWhat version of bp are you using? I thought this was fixed in the trunk. Try updating to svn trunk.
In reply to: How to remove the search/login barYou can disable the admin bar completely by putting this in your bp-custom.php:
function my_remove_adminbar(){
remove_action( 'wp_footer', 'bp_core_admin_bar', 8 );
remove_action( 'wp_head', 'bp_core_admin_bar_css', 1 );
remove_action( 'admin_footer', 'bp_core_admin_bar' );
remove_action( 'admin_menu', 'bp_core_add_admin_css' );
}
add_action( 'bp_home_theme_functions', 'my_remove_adminbar');
add_action( 'bp_member_theme_functions' , 'my_remove_adminbar');If you want to leave the gap that the css reserves for the bar then don’t put in the remove_action()’s for the css. You can disable this by commenting out the two lines: add_action(‘bp_home_theme_functions’…) and add_action(‘bp_member_theme_functions’…).
You can selectively disable/enable it for the home theme or the member theme by choosing to disable/enable it with the above technique also.
The member and home theme’s functions.php file triggers those two functions as the last thing that happens in both areas. The hook is designed to allow just such a thing. I’m so glad that Andy is ‘hook happy’.
In reply to: Posting to WireGlad it’s working for you now. Have fun. If I were you I’d replace those two files with the originals and wait for the official fix to come through. It may not look anything like the patch and could cause conflicts.
In reply to: Posting to WireOK. Using the files that you modified with the patch, temporarily comment out line 166 in bp-groups.php and line 203 in bp-xprofile.php.
Both those lines read: if ( function_exists(‘bp_wire_install’) && get_site_option(‘bp-groups-db-version’). Just put comment slash, slash in front of the two lines. This way the wire install will skip the db version check and just run. Visit the backend as site admin.
Then go back and remove the two comment slash marks.
In reply to: Posting to WireYou manually removed: update_site_option( ‘bp-groups-db-version’, BP_GROUPS_DB_VERSION ); line from where it was and put it in the new location? Gotta do it for both files. Then you have to visit the backend admin of wp as site admin.
Wait a sec. If you have already visited the backend then the database version number is in there already and it won’t work. Hang on.
In reply to: The Wire and Groups Issuejosswinn, looking at your issue now. You just aren’t getting any CSS in the group at all except the member theme CSS. That isn’t even the group home template. Not the same structure at all. Try updating again make sure you update both themes and all the code in /mu-plugins. Overwrite everything.
In reply to: Changing Profile Field OrderAFAIK the answer to both questions is no, not at this time. Sorry.
