In reply to: 404 for groups
I just did a search on all of mu and bp and nothing contains ‘DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional’. I don’t think that’s coming from mu or bp. What plugins do you have running in /mu-plugins and /plugins? Disable all and try again.
That is a suspiciously blank html file. Normally an error gets you nothing or part of the page.
You can access all other group type functions. ‘my account’ groups etc..? Re-upload the dir /mu-plugins/bp-groups
(thrashing around aimlessly here)
In reply to: 404 for groupsWhen I was sysadmin for a company and had to play hardware weasel, I always knew it was a cable problem. That’s where I started and 99% time it got solved. Now I start with the error logs. What do the error logs say?
That skeleton html page is getting sent from somewhere. Where is it coming from before bp hooks that uri? Or what is bp sending after it hooks it?
In reply to: New Memberships not working……..You seem to be posting multiple topics concerning the same thing. This site uses a cache so your post isn’t just going into the nether world like you think. Refresh your browser to see your post after you submit it.
In reply to: Re-captcha not working????Is it installed properly in /mu-plugins and did you go get yourself a key and configure it in Site Admin > recaptcha?
In reply to: Widget titleHowdy. There is probably some slick way to unregister a widget and then re-register it again with a different name but looks like you need the widget $id. Wherever that comes from. Anyway, /mu-plugins/bp-core/bp-core-widgets.php line numbers 12/13:
register_sidebar_widget( __('Members', 'buddypress'), 'bp_core_widget_members');
register_widget_control( __('Members', 'buddypress'), 'bp_core_widget_members_control' );‘Members’ to ‘Whatever’. They’ll vanish from the page(s) and you’ll have to add ’em back where you want them.
In reply to: strange admin addressSpeaking of Andy. Have you seen his latest avatar on testbp.org? No?
http://testbp.org/members/andy/
The dress code is getting kinda strict at Automattic don’t ya think? Matt must have heard the rumors about skivvies and fuzzy pink bunny slippers. Things are kinda laid back in BC but Andy was taking it way to far.
Sorry Andy. Such is the price. Evidently if ya wanna play with the big boys you have to dress like them.
In reply to: strange admin addressI should just learn to *really pay attention* when Andy drops in with a suggestion. I looked at the message that started this thread. Lets see if his suggestion that those two hooks are the problem.
In /mu-plugins/bp-core.php are two functions that hook and alter the email ‘from’ address and modifiy it.
Comment out:
In: function bp_core_email_from_name_filter()
line #1150
add_filter( ‘wp_mail_from_name’, ‘bp_core_email_from_name_filter’ )
And comment out:
In: function bp_core_email_from_address_filter()
line #1165
add_filter( ‘wp_mail_from’, ‘bp_core_email_from_address_filter’ )
Try some test registrations and see if they still say that whacky address.
In reply to: Adding the Admin Bar Content to a sidebar widgetThe easiest way would be to write a widget that does just that.
Seriously, no easy way. Does sound like a good idea though.
In reply to: Open members list in group page“i want a list of all members in all groups for ALL users (registered/non registered).”
How does anyone list non-registered users?
I took a look at the link you gave. Yes there are duplicate users. What code are you using to generate this? It would help if you posted that.
Howdy. I’ve never modified the default mechanism. No that you’ve brought it up, looks like I will. Ugly. Been awhile since I faked a new user registration. One more thing on the list.
I took a look at wp-signup.php and it calls the theme’s header and footer and has it’s own internal css. We gotta modify that or go get a plugin. It doesn’t know anything about your theme’s sidebars.
In reply to: set default Role of new userHey Mike. The default role can be changed by mysite.org/wp-admin/options.php. The ‘default_role’ setting. Make it ‘author’ lower case. Save. This why you were hunting me on irc?
In reply to: {…} excerpt feature for Forum postsHey Mike. Ya gotta say my name hey ‘burtadsit’ then it flashes my pigdin client. I see you were in there an hour ago. What prob?
In reply to: strange admin addressHowdy. You don’t *put* the php.ini file. It *is* someplace.

Try /etc/php.ini
It’s somewhere on your server. May or may not be editable by you if you are on a shared host.
There’s another option mentioned in that article. You can specify an email address that exists on the bluehost server. Don’t you get x number of email addresses with your account?
In reply to: Messaging broken all of a suddenyew. not good. my member theme stopped working yesterday for no apparent reason. not as bad as a trashed db but same results. i changed something in header.php, uploaded it and things stopped functioning in bp’s member theme.
checked the file
checked the error logs ‘Fatal error: no such thing as bp_search_form()’. ‘eh?
checked the file in a hex editor
deleted the file on the server and re-uploaded
replaced the file from svn
replaced the file from my backup
had to reinstall all the bp code
dunno.
In reply to: Hey Andy, this time about forumsIn the meantime there’s this plugin called Hidden Forums by _ck_.
In reply to: {…} excerpt feature for Forum posts@Mike yes I’m in Michigan. Wanna be in Arizona these days. OK, but a bunch of us are on irc.freenode.net #buddypress. I usually have that running.
In reply to: Group IDWell depends on where ya are and what you are doing.
But in bp-groups-classes.php is BP_Groups_Group::get_id_from_slug($group_slug)
In reply to: Hey Andy, this time about forumsI don’t mind spending a week to figure out a solution. Problem is that Sam, Andy and the powers that be are all sequestered in a smoke filled room with cigars deciding something.
What is that something? Would I be wasting my time? Dunno. That’s why “Hey Andy..”
In reply to: Hey Andy, this time about forumsYa. ya. uhuh. Well, gotta lie to bbpress_live. Alot.
Why does mu care what my bb_capabilities are? Why does mu know about them at all? It’s obvious they are on the mu side of the fence and for some reason they have to be but why?
My role in bbpress should be represented in bbpress. I guess it is. The meta data just happens to be in a mu table. I don’t have a user table in bbpress when integrated with mu.
My role on blog ‘a’ has nothing to do with my role on blog ‘b’. Why can’t we treat a bbpress install as a blog? wp_1_capabilities, bb_1_capabilities.
Just thinking out loud.
Back to your comment. Yes. That’s what I would have to do. ‘bb_capabilities’ is for single connection to mu/bbpress. Then I need code to sit between the ‘get user capabilities’ request from bbpress and the ‘deliver bbpress connection params’ bp uses to fire up bbpress_live and start talking.
Gotta go look at the code.
In reply to: 404 for groupsHowdy. Did you do any mods to .htaccess? Is this problem just groups?
In reply to: Notice to usersI heard that from a guy I knew as a kid. Sgt. Major Watson. I called him Sir once. Once. Couldn’t figure out why my Dad and the other brass saluted him. Medal of Honor.
In reply to: Notice to usersYou better hope he isn’t/wasn’t an NCO Mike. He might work for a living.

Army brat joke.
In reply to: Strange errorIn english I’m guessing that means that ‘firefox has detected something about a redirect loop’? Maybe?
In reply to: Open members list in group pageYou want to do what? I don’t understand. You want a list of all members for a specific group. Right?
In reply to: {…} excerpt feature for Forum postsHmmm. Now that I’m thinking about that and looking at that fn, it should use the mu excerpt for the post if it exists. Doesn’t. Might help with your problem. Users can create a ‘tuned’ excerpt. That’s the purpose of having a separate excerpt box. ‘eh?
That would be for blog posts. You were talking about forum stuff. Totally off topic. Hey, get off my back. It’s early for me.
