@DJPaul @DJPaul If it is not too late to request additions…. it would be nice to have the ability to build achievement types to associate achievement’s too. example in my case I want to build a new social network for my company which has teams internationally. With that said I want to build groups for each team say t1, t2, t3 etc.. which I would…[Read more]

@DJPaul a few months ago you were talking about updating the Achievements plugin, just wondering if you still have plans to do so?
Also, I remember others talking about a similar reward system but I can’t seem to find it.

@DJPaul Paul – Can you help me troubleshoot an issue I’m having with Forums? I’ve been a DotNetNuke user for years and am new to WP / BP. I’ve got everything working on my site with the exception of forums – am rec’g an error when I attempt to post through a group forum.

Speaking of… we’re getting off-track from the thread title here. I agree with @djpaul that it’s great that BuddyPress is getting more attention at WordCamps and such. In fact the proposed “BuddyCamp” has really caught my eye (I might even go to that). Exactly what is the risk of promoting a couple of the guys here ( @hnla, […]

@djpaul You are a genius! 😀 I figured out what was wrong. I wanted to be sure I had your assumed setup and after deactivating my plugins everything worked. I had at some time activated a plugin called qTranslate (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/qtranslate/) which broke BuddyPress. So if anybody else runs into my problem, try deactivating all…[Read more]

@djpaul – I saw one closed this week, that had been open just a day or so. I think you closed it. The guy was referred to another old thread, which didn’t reach a conclusion on how to solve the problem. I’ve also seen a user, albeit an irritating user, blocked from using the site for […]

Hey @DJPaul,
Really like your pluging and using it on my site right now.
But it doesn’t automatically add users to a group; it invites them to join a group.Or did I miss something?
Thnx!

@DJPaul Any news on the BuddyPress Achievements front? I’ve been eagerly awaiting version 2.0, but haven’t heard anything about the plugin in a while.

It’s coming well. I’ve done a couple of posts on my blog at http://byotos.com/; let me know if you have any questions.
sorry I’ve only just seen this here, I forget to check the @ mentions 🙂

Spam problem – a more worrying development
Guys, you might want to check whether your name is being ‘hijacked’ by the BuddyPress spammers.
I found an account that had been setup using my name on a site called fannation.com
When I looked at the blog posts on fannation.com (that had been posted in my name), I…[Read more]

Hmm don’t like the sound of that at all. Is this directly related to group creation here? Off to have a look around!
-
It’s not groups, it’s direct in their profiles – visit any of those users, and you’ll see their profile description is just stuffed with spam links. There were also some who were stuffing status updates with spam links.
-
checking updates / descriptions with multiple links would help a little – anyone have an automated tool for this?
-
We might run that by @boonegorges and see how hard it might be to whip up a simple filter or the like to catch more than 2 or three links and clean them out. the updates and improvements should be implemented any day now. If no provision already made for this issue it might be politely suggested.
-
@boonebgorges (I miss the ‘b’ out as well).
I wrote to fannation, and they deleted the offending account straightaway (good on them).
Can we delete the profiles on here for the already identified users?
-
Thanks for the heads up on this.
@hnla It should be pretty straightforward to filter for a certain number of links within a profile and then reject it. I’ll add that to the Ninja list.
-
I thought it wouldn’t be too hard and WP already has this ability floating aound to trap qnt of links.
btw could you remove that ‘b’ as it catches me out each time 🙂
-
An extra ‘e’ in the surname would help as well 🙂
-
Just be easier if he could get a new name altogether :p
-
-
-
-
Good to see a fast and positive response from the site.
Only the admin can delete profiles, not sure if Boone has this ability now with the increased access granted?

@hnla It’s good to hear that yall have at least been discussing this then. Or at least it’s reassuring that I’m not totally off the wall here. @djpaul, Yeah, I would agree that communication has improved. But still, I fail to see why it would hurt to add a couple of core committers. Committers are supposed to be […]

@DJpaul, @hnla Thanks for the feedback. I agree the username would probably be appropriate, but I’m guessing a lot of webmasters like myself would like to be able to edit it to be seo friendly for their site even though alt attributes might not be originally designed for that purpose. It is very common for webmasters who […]

@crashutah: As @djpaul says live demos are the modern day equivalent of “don’t work with animals and children”. Great if you can make it work, but so many opportunities to go wrong. You are talking about why it rocks, not an installation tutorial, so I’d also steer clear of any talk about platforms and servers. As @mercime points […]

Hi @pgayed, sorry I’ve only just seen this. Best to write on the forums then I see it a little better, I forget to look here sometimes.
It looks like you’ve got a few members showing now. A member has to log in to your site again *after* BuddyPress has been activated, then they get listed in the members page. That’s probably it?

@DJPaul Quick question Paul:
Why is it some plugin groups have forums and others not, I presume forums has to be activated for group? if so who can do that?-
Has to be manually activated in the group admin area by the plugin owner.
-
Thanks Ray, makes sense, not sure why it wasn’t, maybe deliberate? I’ll ask pcwriter to activate as it’s unnecessary to have threads all over the place.
-
And if the plugin owner doesn’t “own” the plugin, they’ll need to ask Andy or John to change ownership.

@djpaul – I think this might be a wider problem – I investigated this for another user.
I’ve installed the default BuddyPress installation, and using the default theme. If I click on the “about” page, the title tag still displays “home”

Hi
Do you mean Group-specific Achievements on a per-Group basis?
I was thinking more like categories of achievements. This would be site/blog(posting), social (adding friends etc..), then allow us to build our own categories that we can append achievements too learning, sales, maybe a hidden category that allows one to make achievements that they do not want others to know about until they may get it.
Sorry, I’ve only just seen this reply. Oops!
So basically categories would just help you style the front-end so that they can be browsed in a directory on your site?
